Upgraded bus
Apr 16 2010, 4:18 AM EDT | Post edited: Apr 16 2010, 4:18 AM EDT
My idea would be a normal bus not a double decker . first I would get as much scrap metal as I could get my hands on and other strong materials. Then i would break all the glass out of the windows apart from the one at the front and weld the scrap metal over the holes so that there strong. after that I would rip out the door and build a new one that slides but i would make it very strong and it would have be locks to stop the undead from getting in. in order to stop them from getting in the front window on the out side I would make a sort of cage to fut i over the widow so that the undead will not break the glass and to stop them from getting in .
That's my idea for a upgraded vehicle

It's called the correct spelling. Just like colour and aluminium (which even the French can get right. Seriously, get it together) Do you find this valuable?

One could say that we are the ones who spell things funny, since our American English is based on theirs... just like how we say that Ebonics spells gangsta wrong.

One could also bring up the point that we kicked their asses twice, and then saved their asses twice. However that would be saying a bit much.

Getting back on subject, what material will you use over the windows? what gauge material do you plan on welding over the windows? what welding process would you utilize? which positions do you plan on welding in?

I did a series of posts on the "modding to the point of insanity" thread in which i spoke about buses

All that is now is built upon the remains of the past. So nobody claim that your nation is "great" because without previous nations and empires your country wouldn't be as you are now.

Now as to the numerous problems in using a bus, your adding a cage which will reduce your visibility. Might be better to Jerry-rig up some windshields from some boats. Tough glass and your able to see through.

And without our nation your nation would would be reciting Mien Kampf.

I agree with you however on the windshield thing, most home stores stock lexan as well, you could layer that up on both sides of the glass and it should take most impacts.

My mistake, I jumped to conclusions and placed you as a Brit, but since you own firearms you couldn't possibly be one.

2ga plate Ox/Ac torch vertical down welds overlapped by a 1/4in angle iron frame.
over the windshield and radiator I would use 1in tri-section square tube iron frame with 1 in angle iron crossbars every 2 inches facing bend out.
I would then build a matching frame for everything and put it on the interior of the bus and run 1/4in x 4in lagbolts every foot so the inside and outside are bolted together.

Are you the OP? Just curious if he actually set up a profile.

Since you used the term plate I'll assume you meant to say 2 gauge instead of 12 gauge. Most of what you said sounds solid except your process choice, your position choice and the lag bolts?

The deposition rate for Oxy-fuel welding is very low in comparison to other processes so you'll need to do multiple passes on your vertical welds. And even though you are going to get an increase in travel speed by using vertical down, you'll loose out on most of your penetration. Not to mention that you'll have to remove the paint before you weld the plate to the bus. If I had to use Oxy-Fuel I'd probably run 5 inch beads with a 10 inch pitch, which will give you enough weld to hold onto the plate, but will only take half as long.

Additionally, lag bolts are self tapping, did you mean just regular bolts or even carriage bolts?
