Beacon Military vs Militia Uniforms
May 8 2010, 4:09 PM EDT | Post edited: May 8 2010, 4:09 PM EDT
This is directed to Maj. Damage, and the Mayor. I was wondering what our uniform in the Beacon Military will be? (ACU, MARPAT, etc.) I think the Military Surplus has a variety of uniforms in quantites that would be available to all the Soldiers and Militia Men.

Now the other question is should the Soldiers have a different uniform than the Militia? Thank's for the help.

At this time, we are rag-tag until we fully fill the supply for common items.

BDU pattern is probably still the majority of surplus (milsurp) to be found.

If ACU and MARPAT are found in sufficient quantity to issue to all members, we can go with that.

We'd settle this quick in reality.

As long as I get some battle ready clothes I'm good.
To show militia or main army, I have no problem duct taping a card (king of diamonds or somthing) on my uniform.
It's simple and cheap.

I would prefer Marine Corps. gear, but what we can get is what we can get. When it comes to arming, gear distribution, and selecting uniforms that would have to be Maj. Damage's decision.

I would like a shotshell bandolier, I'm tired of stuffing them into my pockets other than that i don't care really what I'm in, but camo would be nice Do you find this valuable?

I'll be happy as long as our gear fits and doesn't have us sticking out like sore thumbs. Do you find this valuable?

ACUs have too much velcro, rather flimsy, and a poor general use camo. I can understand issuing them if have a surplus, but... remember that we're in a heavily forested mountain region. The ACUs are ideal for desert and urban locations. We're going to be grey blobs amongst the greenery. Do you find this valuable?

I'd be good for a tactical vest, though. I could really use one of those.
Other than that, really... As long as it looks good.
Boots, fatiges, maybe a cool helmet or hat... I really don't care as long as it's not XL and bright red.

Then I'll look like friggen Rudolph.

:O get some ghille suits for our marksmen and sharp shooters.

I'd go for two symbols, one on each shoulder. One (prolly the right arm) depicts rank, while the one on the left is your personal insignia for quick identification. Do you find this valuable?

But that only matters in a large military. With only 100 members faces would stand out more.

Not when wearing headgear, which would be useful when building busting and zombie killing. And it'd be a nice ego trip... Do you find this valuable?

If we need any helmets I can get them into production. Of course someone will need to contract me. Either Major D (Military Leader) or Carnack (Resource ACQ).
They will just be basic metal helmets, they won't be bullt proof.

But here is the question. Uniforms, standardized weapons and insignia are great, but they're all the traits of professional military. Consider that - if we bump into someone else, do we want to give them the impression that we're a miserable ramshackle unit, so they under estimate us, or, do we want to look professional and aggressive, frightening some potential attackers but also making us a significant threat for other outposts, which could eventually cause some raider attacks... 1  out of 1 found this valuable. If we look tough people won't go picking fights with us. That would be like Russia attacking america because it looks tougher then they are. We may not get the hospitality that other people would get but thats what our city-state is for. So our people will take care of our people.

I may not be in the Beacon military, but that is wrong. Go and read more of DN's rants about gear...

To cut it down:

The people you'll scare are the people you dont want to scare...The people you want to scare, won't be scared...And pretty much everyone wants to jump you for the challenge, or for your stuff.

Also, its better to never put all your cards on the table.

I have read his "rants" and I completely respect his reasoning and Johns aswell. But I feel that the advanteges of our men having tac vests, helmets, and camo seriously out weigh us being seen as "wannabe scarypeople". We are a semi profesional force here to protect not care what ruthless raiders think of us. Wether or not we use good gear they are going to raid us. Except when your attacked and you only have ragged clothing it won't help. A tac vest will.
