Looks really good. I'm actually quite envious of your gear, especially your rifle. Do you find this valuable?

Thanks LJ, I love this rifle more than my wife (or so she says :-P) It's a walking advertisement for Magpul.

I've been looking at getting a custom kydex sheath for my Kabar, but not going to pay $60 plus shipping for a custom job. I'll likely make a pet project of it.

That's an impressive load out Unasigned. Do you have a Tac Vest you're thinking of putting some of that stuff in?

Thing's I'd add:
-Loose the Chapstick (Crapstick) & Get Blistex Medicated. I am a voraciouse consumer of Lip Balm. I lean heavily towards ^anything^ by Blistex.
-Add a small container of Baking Soda. It has over 120 uses, & it's a great addition to your Med Kit. Add Baking Soda to a wound & you essentialy have an Artificial Scab being made almost instantly!
-Along with Marriage Certs & Pass Ports, might I suggest Bank Records as well (If Possible)? In the event of say, a Class 2 out break, you will have more info to give to Aid Agencies once you're forcably relocated due to Zeds (or tornados, floods, etc...)
-I'd add 2 more pairs of Shirts, Socks, & Boxer Briefs. This should add maybe only another Pound to your BOB.

Other then that: Fawking Outstanding Sir!

Without going into too many details, I have a horrible, horrible right knee. I've inherited knee problems from my wonderful father in addition to years of football and baseball abuse. I'm very aware of the prescription meds. They are all mine.

@Freelacer:
- I've checked out tac vests, but they get in the way of my pack, and hinder my mobility with the pack on. I love the convenience, but it just doesn't work for me. I like the idea of drop leg holsters and even drop leg mag holsters which I've seen. Since I could have two mags jungle clipped on my rifle, and mose AR drop legs carry 2-4, I'd be set.
-Blistex always 'stung' whenever I'd get cracked lips. But that was the basic white tubed kind. Do they have any other formulas that you'd recommend?
- I never knew about the baking soda. I will definitely look into this more and get a sealable container for it. Thanks for the heads up bro!
- I've thought of that too, but I wasn't sure how bank records would be helpful. In the ZPAW, I never saw how savings prior to the outbreak would make a difference. I might put documents on my flash drives though as a backup. Hmm... I could always password protect them. Thanks for the idea here too!
- I actually have considered adding more socks and briefs. Seeing as you would need to stay as sanitary as possible, I could probably find room somehow.

-Drop Leg Holster: Blackhawk makes a really nice one that I have. I'll look into if they still have it in production. The Thigh Holster I have is actually a combo of 2 different riggs.

-Lip Balm: The stinging is the medication working. If you find it to be too much the Blistex 'Complete Moisture' (Blue Box / Tube) should do the trick. I don't like ChapStic just because it's wax & nothing more. Burt's Bees makes good lip care products. I only know of all this because an Ex kept giving me guff about using sh17 product... I hate to say, but she was right!

-Bank Records on Flash Drive: that's an option. Come ZedPoc it won't matter, but if you gotta leave & need proof of things that you own, owe money on, etc... in the event of a Big A@@ Tornado or Flood you have all your Financial Stuff with to to keep a good name with Banks & such.

-Extra Underwear: Yes, very important. BDU's or whatever Utility Uniform you prefer will last a while without washing. I developed a nasty heat rash at Bradley Gunnery. It was due to not chaning my undershirt for 3 days (Dirt, Salt, Moisture = Millions upon Millions of needles in my back). I'm an advocate of changing out shirts at least every day, 2 at the most...

I've got a Specter Gear DLH that would be coming with me in the ZPAW. I prefer it to the regular Blackhawks, but the serpa's would be a very nice upgrade. I just can't justify the price, so I'll use what I've got for now :)

Good call on the baking soda Freelancer.

I'm surprised a box of BS isn't included in everyones BOB. Its good for scouring your mess kit. Its also great for hygene purposes. You can use it like soap to clean off the road grime you'll be accumulating as well as a toothpaste. It also makes good deodorant. Nothing gets rid of odor like baking soda.

Something else that doesn't get enough love IMO is Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly. They'll take care of chapped lips as well as being a good wound dressing (keeps moisture out of a wound). Its good when added to tinder (any kind of cotton cloth) as a fire starter and its an excellent lubricant, rust preventer, leather protector and waterproofer.

I really like the kit you have assembled. I just recently started to build my own and I think I will definitely use yours as a base model.

Thanks bro. It took some time to put it in a list like this, but definitely worth it to both show off and educate.

Sharpie, I used a template that I found on this site. You can actually copy and pase mine into your own profile and edit it as needed.

Nice pack man. Thanks, it gave me the idea of including my GPS and documents like passport, I.D etc. They may well be needed, I should have thought of those!

Regarding baking soda- that can be used to make bannock bread. if you have flour, just mix it with water and a pinch of baking powder into a dough, and cook it. It can be fried or baked. If you have a small container of salt it would be better to cook a little bit in with it.

It's actually one bag, the other is my plate carrier, being strapped around a pillow so the mags and plates don't make it fall backwards. I don't have side plates yet (and doubt I'll purchase them), so it can't exactly prop itself up.

Ohh ok. Looks just like a backpack. I like how you customized your colt rifle. I've been thinking a lot about removing and adding custom tan colored parts to mine too. Being that I live in southern california and it mostly being a desert around here, perhaps desert colors would be ideal.

I was surprised not to see any baby gear listed. Anyway, I suggest a lot more Q-tips if you like to clean your rifle with them. I'm sure you have it in the bag, but I didn't see a weapons cleaning kit listed -- definitely don't want to forget all that stuff. Additionally I would add some sort of legal stimulant to help you stay alert 'til you get to your BOL, since it sounds like you'll be the only one pulling guard at night.

You seem to have navigation gear covered, but it's a good idea to carry a military compass as a backup to GPS.

Also noticed that your wife is coming with you, but no feminine hygiene products listed.

Otherwise, outstanding kit. Beautiful rifle and rig. Also, it's nice to see someone else with a Para. My first gun was a Warthog .45, and I loved it.

I actually have a spare OTIS kit that I realized I haven't listed here, good eye. The homemade MRE's each have a 5-Hour Energy in them, and I am currently writing a draft for a page about piecing together your own MRE's with simple, cheap store bought items.

A compass is a good suggestion. I have one on my iPhone actually, however it would be a better idea to have a physical one after the grid goes down.

As for the wife and son's items, this is just my personal BOB. My wife is still having me piece hers together. As she will be carrying my son, I am combining their BOBs. She will only be carrying a SCCY CPX-2. My goal is to keep her light but mobile if the situation calls for it.

I could list their items, but to be honest, it was a pain in the ass to even list my own :-)
