Zombie survival gear for girls: what to choose?
May 16 2010, 7:43 PM EDT
Hi people,I'm adding the last touches to my ZS gear and am pretty much stuck deciding what kind of blunt weapon I should get. I'm very hesitant to pick something like a machete. The ones I found seem a bit light-weighted and not very versatile. There's this nice little fiberglass axe that I found. It has reasonable weight (about 3 pounds) and rather easy to handle. I try to compact my equipment and get items with multiple use applications in order to cut down the number of items I'd be carrying. That's why I tend to like the axe better... or maybe it's just because I'm a small-town gal and I'm just used to have this thing around. Still, it's an important choice to make... What do you people think? What kind of close-range weapon should I pick? Do you find this valuable? |

Look at the Training Swords made at Cold Steel. I have the "O Bokken".Reason being is that not only can it smash Cinder Blocks, but it can double as a walking stick. Also, if Needed... I can use it to mount a 2nd bag to my first one. Do you find this valuable? |

Or, you could get a cane that doubles as a baseball bat!http://atlantacutlery.com/p-1190-baseball-bat-hand-turned-walking-cane.aspx Mind you, I don't mean to imply that you need a cane or walking stick - I just think it's a neat "In-Between" item that I saw at my buddy's house the other day. "the close range weapon for a female needs to be a handgun"Heheheh, my post was merely meant as comedic relief but you beat me to the punch. If I were a gal, I wouldn't want to square up against a zombie with anything less than nine millimeters of happiness. Do you find this valuable? |

I'm gonna go with a good ol' fashion Louisville slugger. Nothing says love ya like a ball bat! Hatchet is a good choice too ; ) Do you find this valuable? |

No doubt I wanna carry some small handgun if possible, but the blunt weapon is for when I run out of ammo... I think a machete would be about as useful as a butter-knife on close range...

"the close range weapon for a female needs to be a handgun"Too true. My wife can't even handle a hammer, let alone a baseball bat or more. She somehow is able to whirl around a tomahawk pretty well though. SOG makes a good tomahawk, as does Cold Steel. I could also recommend Gerber for their line of camping axes. Just some suggestions if you want to go that route. Do you find this valuable? |

I would like to point out that "blunt" refers to the lack of a bladed edge. So neither an axe nor machete would be considered 'blunt' weapons. Also, I would suggest trying a few things out to see which you like :) Just grab a $6 Walmart machete, a hatchet, louisville slugger and head out into the woods to beat the sh*t out of some trees. Get a feel for which is more comfortable, which one does the most damage, breaks more easily, tires you out from swinging faster, etc. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

A crowbar might work for you. Those do vary in sizes so you could find one that is more comfortable to you than others. If not I'd vote for the baseball bat. Usually light enough to swing easily but can do some damage. You'd want a wood one though.

"And it can't ship to California. Of course."Haha... Kult of Athena sells the same thing and DOES ship to California. http://kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=YK0413&name=Spiked+Club Then again, if it were up to me, I'd pay a little more and buy one of the steel Windlass maces. I've got a little experience with other Windlass stuff, and it's all pretty good for the price. Do you find this valuable? |

Holy crap!! A female! Nobody scare her off. As for blunt objects, go to your local harbor freight and get yourself one of these. I like em a lot. http://www.harborfreight.com/24-inch-heavy-duty-pry-bar-39700.html Do you find this valuable? |

"Haha... Kult of Athena sells the same thing and DOES ship to California.I love KoA's website. I've also always thought that this was a seriously interesting item... http://www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=600652&name=Medieval+Bar+Mace Focussed impact point rather than spread out over the surface area, and steel to boot. Expensive for what it is, unfortunately. Do you find this valuable? |
