coz i was thinking it takes about 5 minutes to run there with about 20 kg of gear (i used to be in army cadets) this chapel would be ideal with 2 steel reinforced jarra doors about 20cm thick one main one at the east. these can be jammed shut and blockaded with 20+ pews that are about 4 meters long. if ether of these doors are breached i can fall back up one of two flights of stairs with medievil design so that its harder to attack when climbing them and t the top there are cast iron spiked gates that lock into the 1 meter thick limestone walls. after this there is a monks walk that goes around the perimeter elavated at roughly 10 - 15 meters above ground level with the ability to shoot into the mainroom of the chapel and out side. there is also anouther staircase that goes up to two spiral towers which have gates at the bottom and top of the staircase. at this point there is roof access we are now at an elevation of 15 - 20 meters enough that if the zombies got onto the roof with you that as a last resort you could shoot yourself of jump to your death rather than become a zombie. what are some thoughts of this fortress idea P.S this is no new chapel but has been kept in pristine mechanical/architectural condition and the nearest gun store is five kms away. P.P.S this message was brought to u be some bloke in austarlia 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Well you seem like a good new member so I'll respond without flame warring you. Most agree that people will probably be running and praying as soon as the zombies come, thinking that this is Judgement Day or the Antichrist or something (I'm agnostic so I'd not know). Thus, you'd be trapping yourself with a crowd of loud people and priests, turning you and everyone inside to canned meat. However, if you wait a week after Z-Day, the chapel might be cleared out. Take some supplies and wood (metal if possible) to barricade the chapel. Clear the zeds and you have a nice little fort... though it's no match for something like a warehouse. i almost forgot in my short time in the millitary i remember that one of my commanding offcers lives 200 meters from the chapel and owns two armourys one of which is were he lives this also contains boxs full of unperishable daily rations that are quite filling and also has hexi (hexanphetamine) stoves (small fire lighter like blocks taht last for 15 minutes each) to cook on silently.but also theres a small kit suply/store room only for cadet gear containing cammo clothing eg jumpers, boots, shirts, pants. and packs and webbing that is 300 meters from the chapel Do you find this valuable? |

"Most agree that people will probably be running and praying as soon as the zombies come, thinking that this is Judgement Day or the Antichrist or something (I'm agnostic so I'd not know). "Well here is the thing. Nonbelievers always seem to attach something otherworldly to churches even if they are nothing but wood and brick. Believers carry God with them. To work, to school, to prisons, hospitals, the freeway, Hardees, the subway, everywhere. I'd bet that most of those in the church wouldn't be folks like me who believe but folks like you who don't. Not to cast aspersions. Me? I'm set. If I die I'm Heavenbound. But in this sort of situation those who don't know God will wanna cover their bases so to speak because hey up to that point no one figured such a thing as a ZP would happen. So after their non-spiritual worldview kinda...breaks they in the face of something that up to that point was considered fake would find their minds cracked open with the What Ifs. Well, my agnosticism means that I'm factually bound, more or less. If God came down from Heaven and said, "Yo! I'm God!" Then I'd believe in God. Otherwise a church in my view is no more than a house, or a Starbucks. I don't keep my voice down in a church because I see it as "otherworldly" but because I don't want to be disrespectful to what these people believe.Going back to what I was saying, I would shoot a zombie in a church in a heartbeat, just as I would shoot one in an Arby's. Because to me, a church is just a building. *Ahem* Now that that's over, let me not turn this into a religious war. Are you sure that a 100+ year old chapel will hold together? I mean, the pipes might be rusted, the wood might be rotted, there might be termite problems... Do you find this valuable? |

Well im not sure if that's a good idea. a 100+year old chapel would at least take a 5 man team to do repairs and seal all entrance ways . so to the point: better than my plan but just don't do it.lol like the guy above WTF? Do you find this valuable? |

i dont think you quite get it your thinking movies not real strategy 1 meter thick walls!!!! two points of entrance and it's privately owned by the school that i go to so no one lives there and I beleve that god could exist but i think he would want to live our lives simple and by a single code eg: if god is a decent omnipotent being than he would under stand why we do wrong and right. well Im with you concrete/Limestone walls Most of them have basements/upstairs areas and all have crows nest bell towers. The buetififul thing is if your well equiped enough ringing the bell would bring every zombie and survivor to you for miles meaning you could clear your local area and gather all the survivors in the area all at once. I Like it I like it alot plus it was seid In the "Unlikly Treasure Troves'' thread most chuches have can food drives so you might get lucky there Two Cons though One your in the middle of a highly populated area Two huge FREAKEN STAIND GLASS WINDOWS If you have plans for those your set, Im even starting to concider this over my first BOL Do not ask for who the bell tolls the bell tolls for Zeds Do you find this valuable? |
