IFAK: Individual First Aid Kit + Universal Splint
May 24 2010, 8:08 PM EDT
Me again. After playing 'Phone Tag' with the FedEx guy over the weekend I finally got my First Aid compilation from cheaperthandirt.com. It's a decent set up. It's got it's pros & cons. Naturally, I will be making a page of this soon. Do you find this valuable?

Very nice! Compact, looks light, my questions would be;Does the splint look like it would be durable enough to be bent and unbent repeatedly? Does the tourniquet tighten like a belt would or do you use a bar of sorts to tightent it by twisting it to take up the slack? Final comment: I actually like the fact that all the contents are held in a single pouch. For example, if a gunshot wound breaks your friend's femur, you don't have to dig out the gunshot bandage and bind the wound, THEN scrabble around in a separate pocket for a splint. I prefer having the contents all in one area that I can easily access in a situation where time is of the essence. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I'll answer best as I can at this time.I got back from the bar with some friends... sorry. 1) Splint- Yes. It's designed to do so for long periods of time. Also, it can be cut to accomidate all sorts of mishaps. 2) Tourniquet- it's s**t. Really, it looks like the strap to hold in Ammo cans in my old M3A2 ODS. I will be replacing it shortly with something more 'One Hand Friendly' of sorts... I'm also looking at making the taping smaller to make room for more stuff. I.E. Antibiotics, Naproxen, Acetaminophen, Hydrogen Peroxide, etc... Do you find this valuable? |

CAT tourniquets run about 15 dollars I usually add 2 to every IFAK kit I own. I have tried to train myself using other more mainstream ones but they just suck trying to use one handed and I really don't want to have to figure it out when I'm bleeding out. Also I add a 2nd “sport” size quick cloat pack to all my IFAK kits. The wound might be small or I may have multiple severe wounds. Overall man looks good to go.
