Odd Tips
May 25 2010, 11:07 PM EDT
Heya! Well, I was reading something today and came across an interesting tidbit. And, being me, I thought, "That'd be useful to know in a zombie apocolypse"Have any of you ever came across a little fact or had a small idea that would help a bit to know in an outbreak? Post them here! I'll start with the tip I saw: instead of newer cookware like Teflon-coated stuff, there's one thing that won't be damaged with use and can actually add iron (healthy) to your food: the cast-iron skillet (I guess Kinelta was right!) Store your food in bear bags. Zeds or bears it doesn't matter. If you have no food in the wilderness, you're screwed.

You can pistol whip with a Colt 1911 revolver with enough force to shatter a skull. I assume this would apply to some newer weapons as well.

Nice ideas; here's another: if you find a 6-volt battery, use a screwdriver (and some rubber gloves) to open it up: you can either get a few AA batteries or 4 D batteries from it.

Have you ever *tried* that?I'm sure that you would drastically change your idea if you did. It's the power of testing before publishing. 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Have you ever *tried* that?If you are referring to me, Watch the Deadliest Warrior Jesse James pistol whip. I've broken a 2x4 with my Colt 1911 which is no worse for show. Two and a half pounds of steel aren't too picky about what they break. The only downside was I got splinters in my hand. Now I know in a hand to hand fight I may not get a blow like one on a static object but like I said, two and a half pounds of steel isn't too picky. At the very least It would stun or knock a person out leaving them available for a followup love tap. Do you find this valuable? |

A Don, I pretty sure he was referring to the "peel apart a battery" scheme.

Have you ever heard of polyphasic sleep? It's basically a sleeping technique that allows you to sleep only 2 hours a day. Very usefull if you're in a camp and you have a lack of workers. Here's a link to it's description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphasic_sleep

"You can start a fire by sticking a penny and some newspaper in a lightsocket. You can get scars on your fingers by sticking things in electrical outlets, too. I type this with proof. (I was too young to know better. But I learned quickly. I also flew about eight feet.) Do you find this valuable? |

"dont put a hole can of starter flued in a 1gal gas can then try to run a motor with it. your motor will go bye bye."Lemme guess, experience? To Pedro, I haven't personally tried it (I will later), but I've seen a video on it and common sense dictates that it should work if you're insulated and grouned. Do you find this valuable? |

"You can start a fire by sticking a penny and some newspaper in a lightsocket. You can start a fire with a variety of other things, all of which are neither as dangerous nor as dependent on the juice being on. That's not to say it isn't useful, just redundant in my opinion. Another tip: By molding some kinds of bark you can actually make a bowl and boil water. The water keeps the bark wet enough so it doesn't burn and also transfers the heat of the fire from the bark to itself. Be careful not to use a poisonous plant though. Do you find this valuable? |

"You can get scars on your fingers by sticking things in electrical outlets, too.I tried to change a dead lightbulb in my office area. I didn't know the power was still on, it felt like my entire arm was vibrating, the feeling went through my finger to my arm, down my right side, and ended at my leg. That is not the first screw up I've had with a lightbulb. I remember when I was 10 I melted a crayon on a lightbulb. I didn't want to make my mom mad so I got a wet paper towel and wiped all the crayon off. The water started to steam so I got a dry towel to wipe it off and the bulb failed. I got a nasty cut on my hand and had a rough time cleaning up all this white powdery stuff off my desk. Do you find this valuable? |
