Zephyter0's plan (now where it should be!)
Jun 10 2010, 7:22 PM EDT
Zombies: Not super strong, not incredibly fast. They hear and see as far as people, but can smell up to a half mile away. They feel no fear or pain, and can be killed by bleeding out or having their heads blown off. They spead their infection through contact with saliva and blood. When infected, it takes about a day to turn.Starting equipment; Weapons: 12-guage pump-action shotgun with 100 buckshot shells, 22 calibur rifle, scoped, with 100 shots, Scoped 44. Magnum with 100 shots, Steel Baseball bat, Machete. Armor: Three pairs of thick denim jeans, leather gloves, hiking boots, Two leather jackets, a neckbrace, and a motorcycle helmet. Other equipment: Vaccuum pump/sealer, Nintendo DS Lite, Plastic bags, Chess set, Backpack, mixed antiseptics, Pennicillin, US Army Survival Manual, LED flashlight, BATTERIES, Binoculars, 30 lbs of food, about 30 belts (good for repairing/covering areas of clothing), Whetstone, Possible generator if vehicle is there, soap. Starting Party: Myself, three to five friends. PLAN 1 Offensive take: Day one: 1) Notice zombies in town or hear in some way. 2) Gear up and evacuate the town of survivors to near where I live out the highway 3 miles up the mountain. Days 2-4: Evacuation. Day 5: Detonate Bridge, sealing off a three mile area from the zombies, then detonate the rear bridge as well. Day 7-12: Construct swing out bridge allowing access to the town. Days 13-Indefinate: Take self and party across the bridge armed to the teeth, kill as many Zombies as possible, pushing further into the town, then moving on a crusade to destroy the zombie menace, setting up survivors at key choke points along the way and leaving our mark upon every post. fortifying and 'zombie proofing' routes we clear. Sounds fairly good but here are a few things:1) DS? Forget it. Survival takes precedence over entertainment in my eyes. 2) A neck brace might sound like good armor but I value being able to look around over what protection it would provide. 3) Unless your .44 has a stock I don't see much point in scoping it. Better to have it as a lower profile, easier to handle medium to short range weapon and reserve the .22 for any longer distance work you have to do. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Good overall plan, but I got a couple questions. 1. Wouldn't shooting firearms in the town cause noise which will alert more zombies in the area and just keep drawing more and more zombies to your BOL? 2. How would you have enough ammo to do everything you said unless you carried reloading supplies or have your buddies carrying a mini cache of ammo. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

To answer all of your questions: Pop of the town = 5000. Incredibly low.Yes, take the DS, entertainment is a necessary thing. If you don't stay entertained, you'll lose a part of humanity in the effort to stay alive. Neck brace mostly like a gorget, covers front and sides, still able to swivel head. .44 mostly because I'm a fallout nut, and the Blackhawk had a scope. It's also readily avaliable for me. BOL in this case is separated from the town by about a 160ft cliff. The swing out bridge is for fallback. It is assumed I will always have a packmule of some sort, be it a shopping cart or an actual vehicle. This will carry the extra gear, and ammo. Do you find this valuable? |

The main purpose of this plan is to ensure the survival of the human race, after and during the apocolypse. It is also assumed that minimum standards are not the only acceptable ones. A genetic diversity of 11000 was the estimate I heard for the survival of the human race. It matters little if we survive if the race does not.

300 ammo vs. population 5,000. I see issues here. And I'm not counting missed shots. You need to get about 20x more ammo.30 lbs of food is about 2 weeks, if you enjoy that hungry feeling. A single large bag of cat food weighs the same. You need to stockpile way, way, more. No water? More preperation is needed. Do you find this valuable? |

.44 aren't my favorite gun but they are completely viable weapons. As for the scope I will never see the point of putting a scope on pistol, but that's your choice. As for the ammo that is going to be a problem but stockpiling six thousand rounds seems like overkill to me. I consider myself a survival nut and even I only have some 3,000 odd rounds. Well, this is counting what I've got now. I'll be likely to get more later...

I suggest growing food at the BOL Do you find this valuable? |

i recommend a laser site if any on any pistol good for all occasions yea more prep but if you know the lay of the land and everything being a military vet that survival handguide will help quite a bit actually i went through survival training in the woods of missouri and i can say for sure if need be i can live in a forested area and live of the land with just a survival knife, canteen, and some 5-50 cord (parachute cord used in the army it's got a million uses plus smaller strong lines inside of the cord) plus sapper school taught me how to make bombs out of bleach not real useful in the real world but useful on the 4th of july and z-day lol

gun's aren't the only way to kill zombies. most (smart) people will use them as last resort, so 300 rounds sounds good. but more food and water would make this work better. what about medical supplies?
