Mr Picky says ...

Soory to come over all negative and such, but ....Example 1: a) Main point: a group of fellow survivors, struggling to hold onto life in this apocalypse, steal some of your stuff. Or at least, some of them did. You think. Not too cool, but your response is a teensy, eensy weensy but over the top: without investigating things or checking out their story, without making sure you are right, or how many are involved, you decide to retaliate by murdering every mother loving one of them, man woman and child. You stone cold murdering son of a *****. b) This plans seems to depend on a group of survivalists, in a hostile situation, leaving their base and supplies totally unguarded. They may be distracted by your diversion, but totally abandon their base? I wouldn't count on it. c) according to your timeline, you are going to enter an unknown facility, collect supplies whose exact location is previously unknown, place dozens of devices throughout the facility, and exit (booty in hand) all in the space of 60 seconds. One word, dude: no frickin' way. Oh wait, that's two words ... (more to follow) Do you find this valuable?

1. And furthermore,

Example 2:3 kg charge + frag is a heck of heavy load for an R/C model car. Most struggle to carry more than a few ounces. But the main issue with example 2 is that it is an extremely complex plan, that requires your enemies to act in exactly the way you imagine they will. This rarely works out in practice, which is why simple plans are the best. In this case, why not just put your main, 3 kg charge on the command wire, fire it when the bad guys drives over, and forget about all that other stuff? Do you find this valuable? |

Example 3:a) Again, your timeline is implausible even for well-drilled troops, never mind a rag-tag bunch of survivors. You think that within one minute, a rescue party of 3 vehicles is already hitting the road? Even a military ready-reaction team would take longer than that, just to verify everyone is on-net and going to the same place to do the same thing. b) It takes you 5 seconds to set up a perimeter, and that's before anyone exits any vehicles. You seem to misunderstand what setting up a perimeter entails. It means you patrol all around the defended place to ensure your positions are clear, and then adopt firing positions that are able, at a minimum, to observe all possible lines of approach. There may be a bit more to it than that, but that's the minimum. In a building of any appreciable size, in an urban area, it can easily take 100 men to form a perimeter, and a heck of a lot more than 5 seconds. c) the evacuees (fortunately?) don't have many supplies, since they are able to load the whole lot from inside their base, into one SUV, in under 4minutes. And leave room for themselves. Either that, or everyone in all three of these examples is a really well-drilled troopie! d) what has the smoke detector got to do with anything? I don't follow that bit. Contrariwise, the cell-phone trigger won't work, 'coz the cell-phone network is dead. e) I think you kind of gloss over the difficulty of driving out after being surrounded by a ravening horde. Things look especially bad for the guy who is wrangling a bomb, on the back of an open pickup, in the last vehicle out. An alternative might be: Zeds climb into back of pickup as it drives off, and chow down on the bomb wrangler. In the process, they accidentally trigger the bomb (assuming now we have a trigger that would work), destroying the pickup and its driver. The extremely powerful 15 kg bomb causes the driver of the next SUV to swerve and lose control. Oops. Do you find this valuable? |

"Granted actual scenarios aren't quite this clear cut as these, but are merely here to provide you with examples of effective employment of explosives."This. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
