Thermite
Jun 27 2010, 2:32 PM EDT | Post edited: Jun 27 2010, 2:32 PM EDT
Thermite can, as confirmed by the mythbusters, be combined with ice (or water i suppose) in order to create an kind of explosion.

It is thought this happens because as the molten iron hits the ice/water it splits it into hydrogen and oxygen while simultaneously igniting this explosive mixture.
The result is a small, not very firey explosion that will launch the molten metal into the air.

Got to say, I don't trust much of what mythbusters "prove". Without personal experimentation, I wouldn't use them as a source of info personally.

Thermite is some nasty stuff no matter how you put it though. I won't be touching anything that has thermite in it.

I hear you can make a good incendiary bomb with thermite. I wanna try it. :3 Do you find this valuable?

Better keep a tub of mud near and hope that works like they say it does.

Awww... But that take all the excitement away... It's not like I'm not used to taking stupid risks with dangerous materials before. Ever made a homemade mustard gas bomb? I still got sick even with the gas mask... Do you find this valuable?

@Jahadaz
I do agree with you, as a thinking man i don't take things as true without a logical and plausible grounding and i do believe the thermite/ice bomb has this.

I also agree with not messing with it. I think i'd rather let the zombies carry out the tests, if you catch my drift.

Nice! I learned how to make thermite in freshmen chemistry and have been having fun with it ever since.

Where it doesn't really have a practical use as a bomb, it can come in extremely handy in a survival situation. Given what it does, you can use thermite in a controlled manner to burn through just about any lock you come across, including heavy jobs such as safes and bank vaults. Trying to bug in at a prison? This is your key to the city.

I know the reaction is more violent while in water, it doesn't "explode". Thermite produces its own oxygen so was popular for a long time as a method to weld under water.

Not sure about what it does with ice, but where are you gonna fine ice anyway? It would also be way to hard to ignite from a safe distance considering it needs a magnesium fire to start.

Isnt oxygen one of the bi products of the reaction?

And for the record you have to be extremely careful with this stuff. One little slip up and you WILL get seriously injured.

I'll have to look it up.

When has something been able to burn through metal and NOT **** your **** up?
