Anything is legal in the US as long as you follow zoning laws.

Just from looking at pictures, I'd say $500,000 to $700,000 if you did the work yourself.

That's way out of my budget. Guess i'm gonna have to fortify a pre-exsisting place after the SHTF. Do you find this valuable?

Zoning would be your biggest pain, considering the foundations required for meter thick walls and towers that tall.

If you want to drop costs -

1) Make your outer wall freestanding. If it is not part of the structure, it is just a fence. Depending on where you live, you may not even your neighbor's permission to go nuts with a fence-wall. Then, all you are paying for is tons of concrete and block (or concrete and re-bar, or whatever you are making your wall with. Also, a solid outer wall for blasts/impact, with a braced inner wall (angled and anchored I beams and cinder block would be cheapest) with the center filled with sand or gravel will give you the strength of thickness with minimal expense.

2) Now that your buildings are free standing, some simple metal fabrication buildings will be cheapest and often only need minimal approval - proper anchoring and the like. The companies that install them usually take care of the paper work. 10-20 grand each - with more to put in AC/heat/floors/etc.

3) Closed stone towers are good for a castle, but a pain. Instead, look at fire towers (if you live in the mountains, you know what I am talking about). They can be as simple as 2-3 story pole built platforms (you can pay the local telephone utility to plant the posts for you) or as elaborate as 15 story metal towers that look like thick cell phone towers with houses on the top. That said, an existing cell phone tower can be outfitted as a sniper's nest that can shoot to the range of any weapon (2+ miles - not that you will hit anything that far off).

So, with the modified plans, still doing all the site prep, most of the wall, and all of the finishing work, you could probably do the job for 200,000-400,000 - depending on material costs and final size.

You also have the very real cost of supplying such a fort so that it is not just a very secure place to starve.

Wanna save money? Take cinderblock over poured concrete. It won't be as strong, but it will cut down on a lot of material money. It will also lower the weight of the overall structure considerably which would allow for a less heavy duty foundation.

Are you actually considering this?

How many acres and then you have determine property value then zoning laws and taxes come into play.

If you are not an experience builder, here are three options ...

As for legality, it is legal after you show the cash and get a permit. People are already living in fortified homes and former ICBM missile silos.

Or you can use the sumo suit to knock over the zed and then use your firearm for the kill.

And yes, I am joking and having fun. I rather have the Castlemagic than the Castlemania.
