Social Networking Sites and Z-Day
Jul 24 2010, 1:55 AM EDT
Do you think with the amount of social networking sites and their wild popularity, getting loads of information to the finger tips of anyone that will listen instantly, there will be more survivors on Z-Day?Let me know what you think! =D Do you find this valuable? |

Honestly, if people don't make preparations now, a Facebook status isn't going to save their lives. In the words of Metallica, sad but true.

I'd have to agree with Maricely. Some people may not go to the supermarkets because of a facebook status but it will only buy them time. It will not save them. They will be killed eventually.

Okay then... would it benefit the users of this site more. Scenario: Your phone beeps and wakes you up... it's the ZSDW twitter feed telling you it's ON. i think that would at least help all of us who are "prepared" just would have missed the beginning of Z-Day with out a notification. Maybe I'm just thinking to highly about the human race? Do you find this valuable? |

I don't use twitter, but I see what you're saying. A website can help alert those who already prepared. But I think this site serves that purpose. Also, the news.

Simply saying there are zombies on those sites when SHTF isn't going to work for most people. They just won't believe you. Ideally, we would have a zombie alert system that is a popup on those websites that says "Zombies are real and likely eating their parents as you read this. Please stay in a secured area for a week and get supplies and weapons together before you make a move." However, facebook is run by unprepared tools who wouldn't put something like that on there. So I guess we all have to switch to MySpace again. Do you find this valuable? |

No. They wouldn't. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I'm far from an expert, but wouldn't websites go down from user overload? Kinda like cellular service goes down during an emergency?

It's not about how ridiculously the sites are used Zachy, I believe the same thing. But you can't tell me that it's not beneficial to have an alert system, albeit similar to a social network, like josh was talking about. Oh and by the way Zachy this IS a social networking site... just because you aren't updating a status doesn't make it a social networking site. We are all social aware of an impending zombie attack... therefore we joined a social network to discuss preparation and variables. BUt that's neither here nor there... just something to think about.

I think there's a differance. Social Networking sites are mainly for friends/family keeping in touch. These forums are a place for users to submit and discuss their ideas, ask questions, learn a thing or two, blow off steam, and get away from their normal lives and have a little fun talking about something as crazy as a zombie apocalypse.

Let's say that the far left of the spectrum is Twitter, where you tell people what is going on every minute of your day. And on the right we will have Forums. This would obviously be more to the right of this spectrum, but still in the social networking genre of websites. Do you find this valuable? |

people who dont like twitter forget the fact that when Iran pretty much closed down all communications with the outside world Twitter was a major information highway where actual news spread extremely fast. If a country tries to hide a zombie outbreak by closing its borders word will get out trough these kinds of systems. If you are following people who tells you what they had for breakfast you are doing it wrong. "people who dont like twitter forget the fact that when Iran pretty much closed down all communications with the outside world Twitter was a major information highway where actual news spread extremely fast. If a country tries to hide a zombie outbreak by closing its borders word will get out trough these kinds of systems.I never thought of that. But you also have to remember that our own little feeble wars are more allowed to leak through the media than a zombie outbreak. If the government caused it anyway, and even then if they didn't the sheer panic would only accelerate the time it takes for more citizens to die (I.E. Looting, car crashes, fighting over supplies in a store) I'm positive that they at least have someone who took this into thought, and my guess? Thy're gonna keep it under wraps as long as possible. But if one undead gets into our major cities, we're done for,and there's nothing they can do to cover it up. Do you find this valuable? |
