JjThomas3's Survival Plan

Being 15, my plan might not be taken seriously, I might end up in the traffic jams during The Panic.

The first thing we would do on hearing about the zombies is barricade the windows. Then we would proceed to move food, pets, family members, to the center of the house. Then after about 3 weeks, or when we run out of food, we would start to consider bugging out.

We would take the highway south to Destin (about 20 miles), avoiding any zombies along the way. If we run out of gas, or have engine problems, we would dump everything except bare necessities, then proceed on foot. Arriving in Destin, we would go to the harbor and try to find a boat (preferably a sailboat). If we could not find a boat, we would look in all of the residential docks.

Upon finding said boat, we would start sailing westward, sticking to the coast and picking up any boats and survivors we run across (Admiral Thomas). Eventually, we would make it to Fort Gaines. The reason I picked the fort is because I know the area well and it is near the Gulf.
The first thing we would do, other than clearing out the zombies that may be there, would be to check the defenses and block the lower cannon ports. Then we would set up a watch schedule. We would get our water from the fort's well, and grow our food in the courtyard. But in the time it takes to grow the food, we would have to organize raids into the local buildings, the closest being 100ft away from the wall.

After we have gotten a good harvest of whatever we decide to grow, we would start to lessen the raids. At that point, we would attempt to contact anyone in the vicinity, whether friend or foe. If they are not hostile, we would check them for bites, then let them in with limited privileges. If they are hostile, then we would deal with them. Slowly, we would expand outwards into the town around the fort, and it would assume more of a medieval role, being a place to run retreat to.

My plan would rely on avoiding zombies, seeing as my only weapon is a crappy katana (I am not a mall ninja, I promise.). Do you find this valuable?

You aren't doing any preparation beforehand. So the plan isn't really any good. 90% of emergency planning is in the identification of threats, and their mitigation through preparation.

Do you have three weeks worth of food and water stockpiled? If you intend to Bug In for that long, then you should have the resources.

Highway? Likely jammed with abandoned vehicles. Bad choice.

Will you have the gasoline to make the trip? What if nobody filled the car up? Stockpile enough fuel to make the journey.

Your plan then hinges on finding a boat. What if you can't find one? The owners may have taken all the boats to escape. A storm in the weeks whilst you were Bugging In could have sunk those that were tied up. What will you do if there are no boats?

At the fort, what will you do if it is already occupied? You mention growing food, but where are you going to get the seeds? What will you eat until the first harvest? Scavenging is not guaranteed to provide food.

If a good plan is a cake, then right now you have flour and water. You need to add some other things to the mix, and keep on stirring.

Keep working on it.

This plan is what I came up with if it were to happen right now. I fully intend to stockpile, and yes we have enough food for 3 weeks. I was going to put fishing in the plan, but the oil spill would make anything we catch inedible. You are right about it being occupied, it would be at least a month and a half after z-day. We have a boat, but it isn't in the water right now. My main problem with any kind of travel after z-day is that my town is between two large cities and one of the nations largest air force bases. First off good post and thank you for spell checking and using parragraphs.
This plan has aspects similar to mine and these are some of the problems I have encountered in plan...

Within the first paragraph I see a problem....
WATER three weeks of water is 21L for you and everyone eles and double that if you plan to do some hard work during that time or if it hits over 35 degrees whats your plan if the water mains lose presure?

What do you concider your bare nessesitys, more importantly can you and your family survive in the wild?
Whats the plan for getting around in Destin?
How well can you sail/Navigate? How long will this trip take and what supplys will you need?
What happens if somone (more than likely half a dozen well armed someones) already there, do you have a plan B?
it takes over a year to have a viable sorce of food grown from seeds whats your plan for that year?
