Physical fitness?
Jul 29 2010, 11:38 AM EDT | Post edited: Jul 29 2010, 11:38 AM EDT
Since your most valuable asset post Z-day will be your body, I have a three pronged question for you.
#1. what kind of shape are you in currently?
#2. how do you maintain that shape (what kind of exercises, what do you eat etc)
#3. if you use machines and weights to stay fit, how do you think the loss of the gym will effect you?
1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

1.Decent.
2.Run every day. Normally 2-3 miles.
Unfortunately, I have bad seasonal allergies that lead to breathing problems :(

It seems to me that being able to run is more important than being able to bench 200 lbs. Our truly greatest advantage over zombies is our ability to run our a$$es off. Of course, with ragers, you may need it just to stay alive.

1. Above average.
2.I run and jog, as well as hiking for about 8 hours every day. I also use the pool every other day.
3. I do not use machines.

I am very agile, I can climb things (Used to do Parkour) Both of which are important bu I am lacking in the "I can bench X amount of pounds department." SO i will not be useful in that aspect.

1. Small, but strong. I'm capible of putting up a fight when wrestling with someone bigger like my brother, but my small mass usually is my weakness. I am pretty quick though, and I have a high metabolism.

2. Run and jog, do things like free weights, pushups, situps, etc. Occasionally go to the gym, but I have found that machines really increase mussle mass more than stamina, so I don't like them.

3. An apocalypspe wouldn't effect my workout routine much, other than maybe adding a few more pounds from the 870 I'd be carrying. Lol.

1) Around average in terms of cardiovascular fitness, considerably stronger than the average Joe.

2) I got into and stay in shape with Judo, walking, and weekend day hiking trips. I lift weights to preserve as much strength as possible, though i lost a lot when I dropped weight. I'm typically doing the very low carb thing, once every two weeks or so I have an indulgence, which typically consists of ice cream, cake, cookies... basically, high morale value food units.

3) I use a gym but I don't think it would be essential for me because if there was a reason for me to bug out, I'd probably also pick up eating carbs again. A more balanced diet is conducive to maintaining muscle mass.

On a side note, right now I'm fighting the stomach bug from Hell, so I'm pretty much useless. I'd be totally screwed if a zombie wandered into my bedroom right now. It feels like someone is repeatedly punching me in the entirety of my digestive tract, from my stomach to exit parts. I'm considering going to the emergency room...

#1: Not very good
#2: I'm trying to slim down by biking 2 miles every other day, and doin at least 5 pushups before I hit the hay.
#3: No machines, no weights, (Except what I got on me). I just go the natural way.

#1 Not good in terms of weight but fairly strong.

#2 Trying to ditch the weight and I mostly just use the muscles.

#3 No machines. Lifting heavy objects, milk jugs (takes a lot of reps), scrap metal parts.

#1 Decent strength, little husky

#2 I eat very healthily and jog and walk daily. I do calisthenics and weight lifting. I also do pushups, and some tai chi kinda thing... Used to do it when I was learning kung fu, but I don't remember the name...

#3 No machines. I use weights and that's about it, but there are plenty of heavy things out there to lift alot, :P

#1: current shape is very good given my age bracket
#2: avid gym user, weightlifter; diet
#3: loss of machines, training regime and adequate resources (to include enough water and calories to sustain muscle mass/growth/maintenance) will result in degradation over time. Strength loss will occur after 3-4 wks if not corrected.

If in a BOL, without a steady training regimen, atrophy will occur gradually. If in the field and moving, atrophy will occur only in muscles not used often but breakdown of heavier used muscles will happen given no rest.

1) Four months post-partum. I'm walking again.

2) I eat like a little piggy, because I'm nursing. But we eat well. I'm a mean Mama and make my kis eat their veggies. I have to set a good example. I take my kids walking with me.

3) I can afford neither the time nor the money for a gym. Push ups and sit ups is about the extent of my muscle building.

#1 I would say im average build but today's average tends to be a little thick IMO. I guess im in decent shape, not pro athlete, but not couch potato either.

#2 I try and jog a few times a week. Usually about 2 miles a session. Also have a decent diet that I follow with the occassional splurge. Body weight exercises to maintain strength and general fitness.

#3 Loss of machines would not really hurt me. I jog and do body weight exercises for the most part. Push ups, sit ups, squats, etc...

#1. Decent, about 20 pounds overweight.
#2. Run 2-4 miles in the morning, walk/run 2-4 miles in the afternoon, almost everyday. Joined Karate recently. Some free weights, but not as regular as I should.
#3. It really wouldn't. Don't need weights for most of the exercises I do and ruble or my BOB would work for the ones I do.

1. Decent but weaker then most people my size.
2. Don't do much, just the fitness classes and maybe hitting the school gym every few days. On my own probably just treadmill at home and pushups, etc.
3. Wouldn't hurt much. Just go back to doing pushups, situps, etc.

1. i have very good upper body strength so i can swing a melee weapon quite well but i can run very fast but only for short periods of time. Most of my 120 pounds of weight is muscle.
2. I just do alot of weight lifting im not on a diet cause i need to eat alot cause i work out so much. also i like running around the track at school and do alot of pushups and jumping jacks, i cant swim i sink like a stone.
3. i dont go to the gym i work out exclusively at home and when i can at the school gym so it wouldn't affect me all that much

1) Pretty good, I just got out of the Marines. My most recent PFT score was decent. 3 mile run in 25 minutes, 100 (max) crunches in 2 minutes, and 16 consecutive pull ups (max is 20).

2) I don't run nearly as often as I used to. Now I hit the gym 3 days a week.

3) The loss of a gym isn't really a big deal. There will always be heavy stuff to pick up. If prisoners can do it, so can survivors. Fitness post apocalypse will come down to more of a complete and healthy diet than how much working out you do.

#1. pretty good shape, not really the best for upper body strength, but a great runner. and I can run flat out for a little over 200 metres. at jogging pace I can run for over a mile. then stop for like half an hour because I'm outa breath.
In a Zed-poc, I would prolly be able to run farther, as i know that if i stop, I'd die.

#2. I usually don't actually do any exercises but If i get sent out to the shop, I usually run there because I wan't to get back as soon as possible. I usually eat anything I like. but I could survive if I had no breakfast, a sandwhich for lunch, then something medium size for dinner, although If I had that in a zed-poc, I' be out of energy pretty quickly.

#3. It won't

1. Latest PFA = 09:55 on the 1.5 mile run. 50 crunches in 2 mins and 50 push ups.

2. Run about 3 - 4 miles 4 - 5 times a week.

3. I do quite a lot of my fitness in the camp's gym but I try and run with weight and do hill reps. I'm also trying to eat healthier.
