The Official Zombie Handbook UK
Aug 5 2010, 2:59 PM EDT | Post edited: Aug 5 2010, 2:59 PM EDT
Hello All,

I've been a lurker for some time & want to let this learned forum know about the release of my new book The Official Zombie Handbook UK through Severed Press.

I hope it's something that will be of interest to the forum - it's not a big publisher so if I post in the wrong place - feel free to tell me to *(£))$ off....

I read the info on here on the Zombie Survival Guide - mine is a different take - more survival, less comic, more content-driven. Also, focus is mainly on a disaster in the UK but applies to any city really or urbanised environment

Here's a review from zombiemall.com

http://zombiemall.com/zblog/?p=332

I have looked at developing a 90-Day Survival Plan for the average Briton but the plan will work just as well in any country which has few fire arms. It includes water, food etc...

It's taken nearly 3 years of research looking at everything from London's emergency plans to the price of the used whaler...

I cover all of the home fortification & weapons stuff as well.

Enough of the blurb - here are the links - a few amazon reviews so far - most review copies have only just been sent out to the press....

http://www.amazon.com/OFFICIAL-ZOMBIE-HANDBOOK-UK/dp/0980799619/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1281034652&sr=8-1

http://www.amazon.co.uk/THE-OFFICIAL-ZOMBIE-HANDBOOK-UK/dp/0980799619/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3J8UMEG4BRVC5&colid=FLA3EMX4KJ3I

It would mean a lot to know what you all think so let me know - hopefully, it can offer something to the community.

Sean

I didn't read that - I have seen it pop up on amazon as a recommendation - I thought it was about zombie movies or something....the cover looked alright but then you know what they say....I will avoid if it's crap.

It is an RNA virus which causes the zombic condition in humans. Do you find this valuable?

Zombic?

Edit: Sorry it just seems like a strange word, doesn't quite roll off the tongue.

But where do you get all these facts from?

I was wondering that too, as far as I know there is no evidence that zombies exist, or a zombie virus exists. I think it's solanum v2.0!

A ribo nucleic acid virus; that's a pretty interesting concept. The virus in question would behave identically to the HIV virus in terms of its replication ability.

Have you ever studied microbiology? Your book sounds a lot more scientific than Max Brook's work.

And in response to Maricely the virus in question is indeed fictional; based upon real science to add a depth and crediability. Very well done Seantpage. =)

Indeed - it is more scientific & exactly right about it being similiar to HIV. It is transmitted by bodily fluids, mostly blood - so watch for that splatter...I do have knowledge of microbiology - so I try to ensure that everything fits. Afterall, zombies are not super-natural - they are suffering from the zombic condition - in effect, they are the 'living dead'....

In my book, I have created a whole world where the virus exists - including scientific experts etc...then consider how society, in this case the UK, would cope with an outbreak. I have including everything from detailed survival plans to making use of a microlite for transport....if this kind of thing floats your boat - then you will enjoy it - on the subject of boats - I also checked the price of getting a second-hand whaler & just heading out to sea with your family & supplies when the sh*& hits the fan....mmmm.

Sounds like quite the piece. But I'd rather not read. Seen too much zombie virus fiction as it is. However, your concept... its good. With HIV seeming to be on the brink of being conquered(or at least understood), its bound to have the possibility to change. Although, I'm not concered so much about what the end result is as much as two things:
One, transmitted by blood. That's always been the danger. That almost certainly rules out CQB without having HAZMAT grade gear. CQB includes melee, btw.
Two, the fact that it shares similarities with HIV. HIV itself can stay dormant for YEARS.

Imagine the infection rate, and nothing happening until a catalyst triggers the virus..

or However HIV turns into AIDS.

Quite the strange, but logically frightening possibility.

OMFG! We could already be zombies! The next time the comet passes, it wakes up the virus, and poof, no more lasagna for me...

J/k with the comedy, but seriously, that's really quite interesting to think about. Kinda makes me want to become a germ-aphobe and a hermit.

There is an update in my new book War against the Walking Dead on the virus & origins. If you are into the science of it, then it might be of interest. Also, with some clever maths, we have a new theory of ghoul-spread based around the development of meta-hordes.

Before you come back, yes I spend far too much time on all of this.

If you check out the book, be interested in your feedback on the theory.

I like the whaler, easily the mose versitile, toughest general purpose boat in Britain but your generic double ended surplus lifeboat is probably more common therefore cheaper.

Something to bear in mind though, Britain has no 'driving licence' type thing for boats because the coast and the weather have been serving as a brutal Darwinian eliminator of the inept since forever.

As the UK´s rescue service, the RNLI is a charity there has never been a good reason or political will to implement a system of regulation. And that is what lulls folk into gravely underestimating the risks of 'heading out to sea'.

Looking forward to reading your book.
