STAFF ANNOUNCEMENT - Site Infrastructure Collapse
Aug 21 2010, 2:54 PM EDT | Post edited: Aug 21 2010, 2:54 PM EDT
As many of you may have seen the links on the ZSDW are unclickable.

We have also had reports of inaccessible profiles; undreadble private messages; inability to sign in and numerous other errors. Reports of viruses and malicious advertisements have also increased. We are also under attack by waves of spam-bots on a daily basis.

In effect this has paralysed the staff's ability to control the ZSDW to a degree. The problem should last no longer than a week. For the duration of this problem the site is on high alert.

Discussions can be taken here: http://webchat.freenode.net/

Username: whatever you wish
Channel: #ZSDW

Right, we're working with Wetpaint already to try to get the issue resolved.

In the meantime feel free to continue contributing. Please be careful of viruses and other malicious things though.

Make sure to update your anti-virus and try to get "Google Chrome" if you can http://www.google.com/chrome

This minimizes the damage inflicted by the problem for the user.

I apologise for the trouble this issue may have caused everyone, feel free to send any concerns to a member of staff over at the IRC or through a thread until the Private Message system is fixed.

UPDATE: Google Chrome fixes 90% of the problems, getting it is a temporary solution to this.

EDIT: Google Chrome apparently doesn't work for everyone. Try it anyway and post if it doesn't work.

So what you're saying is that it's difficult for the staff to do anything?

...
PARTY TIME!

No, seriously, I haven't had any problems with it.

I'm saying that half of the staff probably won't be able to actually do anything on the wiki from the reports at Wetpaint Central.

We may need to conscript a couple of mods for the weekend.

People should use chrome anyway because it is the best browser to date.
You dont have access to all the tools when editing pages tough bu the forum works fine.

I was wondering if it was the site or the s**t work computers.

Bollocks, that's what I say.

I'm having all the troubles listed. My lazy A&& IT dept won't sign off on upgrades or anything.

In other news: I should have a brand new Sony Vaio e-Series laptop by the end of the week.

Unfortunately, I cannot read or respond to any PM's, as the PM tool box is 7/8 shrouded underneath the site. In fact, most clickables for me simply don't work; I'm stuck with having to navigate the caveman way.

Anyways, hopefully WP will unf*ck this situation soon. There's stuff I want to write about, and I'd really like to edit my profile...

Change the zoom level on your screen. That's the only way I can read my PMs.

In terms of additional staff, I doubt there are going to be any soccer riots over the next couple of days; it doesn't strike me, personally, as a priority, and I suspect it'd just lead to more confusion and more crushed dreams than George Michael's coming out.

In terms of the IRC, I'm on for a large chunk of most days. I'm sarcastic and unhelpful, but at least I'm there.

In terms of getting around the glitches, the current consensus is that there's an ad or some ads causing the problems. If Chrome doesn't work for you, try Firefox with Adblock, and let us know how it works. If you're about to ask how to get Adblock, please Google it, first.

In terms a possible reason for the issues, nobody's certain and I don't care, so please feel free to find out for yourself.

Now I'm going to yell at my drunkly singing neighbors before lighting their cars on fire.

The way I now read pms is basiclly pull them up. Highligh the words copy and paste onto a youtube comment board and read. Thats not just caveman. That completely counter productive. Anyway Hope you guys don't have o much trouble on your hands. Also just a confidence booster nobody blames you guys (I think) ha anyway have a good one. Do you find this valuable?

Anyone have spare bandwidth (both personal and networking) and spare server? I would offer if I was in the position. It seems we have too many problems with certain things. I know I know, what do you expect for free and there is no such thing as a free lunch? Do you find this valuable?

Really, I never have any problems except for the annoying advertisements and once from a worm that I saw try to load itself into my computer which I instantly killed.
