Poll: Favorite Zombie Movie
Aug 21 2010, 11:00 PM EDT | Post edited: Aug 21 2010, 11:00 PM EDT
Hello everyone! Just wondering what your favorite zombie flick is and why?

For me I have to go with any George A. Romero, but specifically the re-made Dawn of the Dead. I say that although it is highly unlikely that zombies would move with any speed at all, it scared the crap out of me when it came out and eventually got me into researching my fear of zombies and to where I am today!

The DOTD remake wasn't made by George A. Romero. The remake was done by Zack Snyder (same guy who did Watchmen and 300.)

For me, the best was the original Dawn. It and Night are the two most important zombies films ever made. Yet, I like Dawn better than Night.

My favourite would be Resident Evil:extinction. I think the other Res Ev. films are ok, but extinction is brilliant!
I wasn't very impressed with the remake of Dawn of the Dead. Watchable. but not brilliant
The 28 series is looking pretty good, i have high hopes for the next one.

the 28 movies were good(even though they need to hold that d@mn camera still) and i liked the crazies(even though i get the feeling that's not how it's going to play out) but overall, its definetly shaun of the dead. Do you find this valuable?

Probably Dawn2004 by default but I've been kind of disappointed with zombie films lately. I'm renting Survival and Land tonight so hopefully they'll redeem G.A.R somewhat, but from what I've read, I doubt it. Do you find this valuable?

My girl couldn't find Land so she got Julie and Julia instead (??). But we watched Survival of the Dead tonight and it was really bad. It made Diary of the Dead look like a masterpiece. Do you find this valuable?

Its hard to pick... I like 28 Weeks Later (NOT Days), and loved DOTD (2004)...

But I think my favorite has to be Zombieland, simply because you can watch it with anyone and everyone. Its actually led to some in depth discussions about zombies with friends who I probably never would have approached otherwise.

Second favorite zombie spoof? "Fido". Not kidding, I loved it. If you have not seen it, and like laughing (who doesnt?), rent and watch this movie about a young boy in the 50s and his pet zombie.

Fido was a good one for a chuckle. It reminded me of the Fallout Game's tongue in cheek humor.

Now which Diary of the Dead did you see? Or are you refering to the English movie with a name real close that I can't recall right now?

There is a French flick called Horde that is looking real good. The Dead is a great "Last man on earth" type of flick while A.D. is a computer animated film that I'm hoping to see soon.

But my all time favorite? Walking Dead series. It'll be released on AMC soon. If you're lucky you got to be a walk on ad get to see all that has been filmed so far. :p

I don't have one really. If I had to pick one it would probably be shaun of the dead, because it's funny, I don't watch a whole lot of zombie movies because I know I will get pissed sometime along the line and say "What the hell are you doing?" or "THAT's HOW IT ENDS?!?!" For a laugh I suggest that everyone watch Steves Segals "Agianst the Dark" I'm sure this is every mall Ninjas Wet Dream.

Me and a friend hired it, laughed our way through the first 15 minutes of Mall Ninja Dialodge and pissed ourselves thought the next fifteen minutes of B rate Zombie movie Cliches and terrible stunt acting (If you pay attention Steve Segal turns into a woman on serveral occations) Before taking the disc out and sending it back six days premature.

This is a classic What not to do in a Z-apocolypics/B rate film/Life.

Moving on...

An honourable mention to Zombieland (Tallahassee "I dont think we're going to be able to stich this up" Bill Murry "(Sighing) ooowwww...thats... still...tender" )

But have to say my faviourate is "Land of the Dead "

I didn't agree with alot of went down (intelegent Zombies, Six Packs on an anti-personel tank) but Simon Baker was brilliant in that movie and his charictor;Riley and charlie made the film for me.

Actually, I don't understand why people hate it. It wasn't as good as night or dawn, but it was better than Land or Day IMO. It's the only zombie movie I've seen that creeped me out when I watched it (the first few minutes with them in the woods are spooky.)

Also, Samuel is the coolest Amish guy ever.

My personal 5 favorites with explanations
1: Night of the Living Dead
Why? Because Duane Jones is one of the coolest calmest protagonists I have seen in any zombie movie next to Tallahassee. He is the best example of someone who works well under pressure. I love it when he smacks the girl to shut her up, classic; my girlfriend was relieved when she saw that.
2: Zombieland
Why? What's not to love about the cast and the writing; it's the perfect combination of comedy and horror.
3: Fido
Why? I love independent films and this one takes the cake for most creative zombie comedy. The setting and background just make Fido that much more lovable.
4: Dawn of the Dead 2004 Remake
Why? Although I loved the original in all it's 80s splendor with its funky pornographic soundtrack, the fact that they had a specific clean up crew for the blood, and the mall was in PA... 2004 brought to me the concept of rage zombies, which forever changed my life and dreams. AND the fact that when they got out of the sewer to save the girl, if the guy didn't shut the manhole so loudly, they could have very easily snuck into the gun shop-Proving my theory that stealth is possible, just not efficient... unless you're Sam ****ing Fisher
5: Day of the Dead original
Why? Because of the scientist's efforts to understand the zombies more in depth. His experiments could have prevented the disbelief that zombies could eventually get smarter in such movies as Land of the dead.

Honorable mentions with random reasons:
Diary of the Dead
Why? The bow and arrows and the sword
Shaun of the Dead
Why? I would know how to shoot that Winchester Rifle
Land of the Dead
Why? Luigi from Super Mario Bros. was in it!
28 Series
Why? The chaotic social interactions of people.
I am Legend
Why? The book was a rip-off of Vincent Price's The Last Man on Earth... hybrid vampires

When you go to rent movies try to find them used for sale. I have seen movies cheaper for sale then the cost of renting the, Land being one of them. Amazon has nearly every movie listed on this thread for under $5. Well worth it IMO

I think that there is NO MOVIE out there in the genre that you can not pick apart and get annoyed with. The beauty of it is that you can take at least one or two good ideas from each flick and store them in the back of your mind for Z day. Anyone who thinks they know every outcome and has the perfect survival plan is very nieve IMO

I honestly think the original Crazies is better than the remake. The remake is more intense but I think they left out a lot from the original to achieve one or two jumpy moments. Either way I can fully appreciate preferring an older movie. I usually suggest to everyone to watch an original before they watch a remake so they can get an accurate opinion about each. I would usually read a book after I see a flick on it because obviously a book is always going to be more intense and detailed than a movie ever could be.
