I agree with DevilNuts on this subject. Sometimes too much information is just as bad as no information. Keep it quick and to the point. If you are patrolling with a group that you've worked with for a while than SOP's would be the best course of action but if you are just thrown together than KISS. However you should also have a plan for breaking contact. But always keep in mind that fire without movement is a waste of ammo, movement without fire is suicide. Do you find this valuable? |

Don't make the mistake of "Marine-ifying" the situation. You cannot lay down an FPL every time you "engage" a zombie -- you do not have the backup (or logistical support) to be wasteful with ammunition. You also need to minimize the noise you make. Plus, I would contend that fire and maneuver may not be as effective against the undead as it is against the human adversaries we are accustomed to. Do you find this valuable? |

I agree with DN and would just like to put forward "CLAP"Clear Loud As an order with Pauses Communicatrion is a key element in any contact. Do you find this valuable? |

This scenario is of course when you have a large hord of Z's. However when going against raiders, different tactics must be used. I hope to fortunate enough that the crew I'm putting together all survives long enough to come together. All of us Marines ( obviously some of us have families) and a good number of us infantry or prior infantry and the rest of have backgrounds in explosives and other helpful skills. Devil.. are you on the west or east coast? Do you find this valuable? |

I did 2 yr unacc from 04-06, now I am doing 3 more accompanied. One year down in September. Same unit, same base, same shop -- except now I am running the shop; receiving the headaches instead of causing them. Do you find this valuable? |

Would be interesting to see how much heavier weapons you could scavenge (240's 249's and prolly even 50's). I am sure the national guard would leave most of its resources behind as the weekend warriors run for their lives and abandon their posts.

I personally wouldn't want a 50 unless it's a sniper rifle. The weight alone but get way to heavy ( unless mounted on a vehicle), then you have to factor in the weight of the ammo, and worst of all you may have to teach someone how to use it properly. You can't always be the trigger man.The 249 would be the most practical full auto weapon to have both on foot or mounted. If mounted it's easily taken off or if dismounted the weight is bareable. Plus it can be fired using the drum and linked rounds or by magazine not to mention that it's incredibly user friendly. Plus I love the 249. I carried it for 3 1/2 yrs as a grunt. I have a nice picture at work of a soldier who was mounting a .50 cal on a vehicle, and tried to bang the pin in with a round. I think he *may* have gotten to keep his thumb. Things like that are why I am reluctant to share my knowledge with civilians and/or justify them using military equipment when they are untrained. If I leave out some small detail because I'm not qualified to instruct, somebody loses a hand and probably dies of the infection and it would be my fault. No bueno. Do you find this valuable? |

"I have a nice picture at work of a soldier who was mounting a .50 cal on a vehicle, and tried to bang the pin in with a round.Ah yes.. Such a wonderful picture... We have it hanging up in our shop. Yet another reason why not to mess with "explosives". In my opinion he deserved every bit of that. Having an untrained person doing anything, be it driving, shooting a weapon, or playing with explosives is just as useful as not having anyone doing it at all. In fact it's more dangerous. Again... 249 (in my opinion) most useful and user friendly full auto weapon out there. Do you find this valuable? |

If you can find magazines with good springs; you are not likely to find disintegrating links lying around anywhere unless you have access to them.

"I fortunately have both in a very large abundance thanks to the base that I'm on. But yes not everyone is that fortunate. I have also found out over the years of shooting the SAW that when shooting it utilizing a mag you need to pull the mag back slightly and push downwards as to allow the round being feed in to "seat" correctly. This will help prevent some of the jams and double feeds. Do you find this valuable? |
