Clothing / Armor
Aug 27 2010, 5:50 AM EDT
So if an outbreak occurs, what do you all plan to wear? Obviously it must be practical and useful. Initially I will wear black 5.11 TacLite Pro pants, they are extremely comfortable, very durable, and damn near over planned in their usefulness. They are basically like a more comfortable version of BDU's or camis. I will wear either a black t-shirt or black hoodie with my 5.11 vest set up for holding my ammunition and basic load. I will wear a comfortable pair of dark high top hiking/combat boots. Thin black 5.11 shooting gloves as well. As far as armor goes once I have gotten to my fallback location I have the new Marine Corps Recon Flak w/ sappis and all of my utilities that I have accumulated through the years of being in the service. I also have the new light weight kevlar with the flak and more essential gear with it. Basically I want to know what unconventional ideas everyone has that would help against zombies. I have the gear to hold out against raiders or other survivors taking pop shots at me while I am on the look out but I certainly do not want to be wearing all that gear when I am trying to move quickly and quietly through a group of undead. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. If I don't have time: Whatever I happen to be wearing. If I have time: Pretty much whatever I am wearing. If an outbreak occurs I am not going to be thinking about clothing. I will be thinking about getting to either my home, or my BOL. Whichever is closer. 0 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Sounds like you think an outbreak is going to break out in your exact location and at supersonic speeds. Even if it was breaking out exactly where you are located I think you would have some time to gather your things. Thats my opinion though

The reason I put down what I did is that if I know there is an outbreak, everyone else will too. I would need to get home or to my BOL through the panic. However, I was assuming that I am not at home when it happens. If I were at home, I would wear a pair of jeans (or something thicker if I have it), My desert boots, and my leather jacket. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

T-shirt, jeans, running shoes, either NRA hat or Stetson, and a school backpack. As I've said on many threads, if I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die comfortable. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

Judge my clothing based on the fact that I have extreme variation in temperature during seasons and that I'm more of a melee person than a ranged person. The only article of clothing that I would wear no matter the season are my Brooks running shoes. =^_^= In the winter I layer two coats, a leather trench and this hot little metropolitan jacket. Scarves would be tucked in, pants doubled up as are the wool socks. I have heavy leather gauntlets, well padded/insulated too. When sleeping in the cold, never wear the clothes you wore during the day, the sweat just freezes you =O_O= Layering allows clothes rotation during sleep, and stripping off layers during activity. In summer I would go with running shoes, homo-tight jeans and a matching t-shirt, then leather fingerless gloves. if I feel that bagginess isn't a problem and its particularly hot, I'll likely wear cargo pants but the small sized t-shirts are still in order. Ordinarily I typically wear a loose fitting jacket duirng summer to collect wind and keep the sun off me, but I'd be too afraid that it would get grabbed hold of. Always pants, never shorts because I would run the risk of getting cuts on my legs then getting splatter onto the cuts. Also, I would likely cover myself with some plastic grocery bags to cut back on splatter.. easy in winter, not so much in summer.... WIthout this however, my entire post falls apart. WIthout the ability to cover myself in plastic bags, I'm going to dress in a freakish mishmash of randomly assorted, whatever I come across clothing. Mens and women's clothes tied about me randomly to be gotten messy then replaced. I wouldn't actually have a set outfit at that point, it would likely change every few hours I was away from base. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

If an outbreak happens in the summer: Probably my denim short-shorts and a t-shirt, or even my white bloody Zombie Walk pants and a tee. For shoes, my trusty pink high-tops. If an outbreak happens any other time: Grey skinny jeans, a tee, and my black "band/Michael Jackson" jacket. My shoes would be my brown pirate boots; they're waterproof and reasonably warm, and I can run in them. I'll probably just be wearing whatever I was wearing the day the outbreak occured. Of course, I'd pack a bag so I'd have clothes for year round, washing them whenever possible. I'm a girl; I like to be clean. Hopefully, I'll have something to carry my guns in. Probably a duffle bag. Haha, funny thing is-- I kinda look like Emma Stone in Zombieland, so I'd probably look like her kicking undead ass. 0 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

If an outbreak happens, hopefully i'll be either at home and if not I'll be able to make it back to my home. For clothing i'll be wearing the following: -Assault Vest -5.11 Black Tactical Shirt/pants -5.11 Packable Jacket (depending if its cold or not) -Blackhawk SERPA thigh holster -Altama Boots -CAG gloves -Forsheda A4 gas mask (if the virus is supposedly airborne) -Tactical Knee Pads Hopefully you guys don't think I'm an "UBER TACTICOOL MALL NINJA", I assure you I'm not. I just like my own style in preparation. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

I plan on wearing a keffiyeh/scarf over my mouth (for blood splatter, as my only weapons will be melee), a T-shirt under my camouflage jacket, blue jeans, and my boots. I have all this ready to go.Now, for the complete opposite of practical and reasonable, I'm also planning for non-combat wear at the BOL. A trench-coat and my officer's cap ($25 at a flea market) will be my 'relaxing' clothes. It will command (limited) authority and will make me feel cool, regardless of if I actually look cool. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Green t-shirt, cargo pants (Or fleece-lined jeans), hiking boots. I also have a Boy Scout "Class B" hoodie and a raincoat in my pack. For my head, I have a camo boonie and a beanie cap, though I'll only wear one of those when it calls for it. I'm kind of starting to regret getting my BOB in ACU, might attract a bit too much attention.

"If an outbreak happens, hopefully i'll be either at home and if not I'll be able to make it back to my home.I feel you on sounding over tactical. But like you said, it is not for show... if you know how to use it and are comfortable in your gear its smart IMO. I have more tactical gear than civilian cloths, but honestly thats because of my daily job. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
