Hawg hunting bare handed.

I'd like to share a video of three Texas hotties taking down wild boars with the aid of their four dogs. The only thing they use other than thier hands to subdue the hogs is rope.

I've said several times here that dogs would be a neccessity post-Z. Hopefully this video will add a little credability to that claim. I will be posting more videos and articles on dogs in the future. I don't believe we've even begun to touch on how much canines would aid you in a survival situation.

Dogs wouldn't be a necessity, more of a luxury. food and water are the only real essentials.
That said, these people know how to train and use dogs, and I don't dispute that for large groups, it would be effective, but if one doesnt or cant train a dog properly, or take care of it, they arent hat useful.
A dog is a tool, a living, breathing tool, but still a tool.

I'd have problems at my BOL without the dogs, The Mastin's live with and protect the livestock and the terriers keep the vermin from eating me out of house an home.
Can't keep cats as eagles make them vanish!

Hunting with dogs cannot be explained to people who've never hunted.

They change everything. Rabbit hunting without dogs is fine but with dogs you reach a completely different level. Same thing with quail hunting and waterfowl hunting.

I can't imagine any kind of survival community security program without them.

I'm planing to get an Australian Shepherd soon (cant wait). He will help me when it come to herding up live stock, post and pre Z day, and he should act s as a good guard Dog, or just an alarm.

Edit: Does any one know if you can get special packs to put on you dog? Like on their backs?

Well good sirs you have made a believer of me I always rejected the idea of owning a dog on the basis it would be way too much trouble to raise and train the animal for just guard duty now I'm thinking otherwise.

I agree with timberrattler on this one dogs would be quite useful obviously as long as they were properly trained if you were hunting what better than a dog to track with? I assume a dog could sniff out chase down and kill small game like rabbits saving you having to use a rifle, chasing and killing of pests like rodents too which will be a problem in PAW protecting crops as well as your home and family.

My little girl does keep asking for me to get a pup and I always said no but I may consider a yes for a good working dog can dogs be trained to be multipurpose?

I'm interested in reading more on this.

"obviously as long as they were properly trained "
And there's the biggie! some breeds are easier to train than others, Huskies (from personal experience) are the hardest, even if you get them young enough.
Some breeds, usually specialized ones like setters barely need training. Their task is genetically hardwired into them. Having said that purebred pedigree dogs can be unstable, Overbred. They're susceptible to weird disorders and often just stupid!
Collie's are probably the smartest dogs on the planet (300 word vocabulary!) but its a highly specialized intelligence. A German shepherd cross with 1/4 greyhound or some other hunter would be my advice.
GS's and Alsatians are adaptable, bright and strong and will help you in all kinds of conditions.
The Camping/sports company Col Tapioca make a dog pack, not wonderful quality though.

Hehehe, Fallout 3 comes to mind. Dogmeat.
anyway, dogs seem like a good choice, they help you chase down stuff, act as a look out, and provide great companionship.
Dogs FTW!

Don't know as I've come across a dog that will carry 10,000lbs (try the paralyzing palm perk) but companionship thing works both ways and it's horrible to loose one and devastating to have to put one down.

lolz, what level do you get it?
I agree, but you should be watching each others back keeping each other safe. I'm guessing that dog food should be a bit more available than other foods. amirite?

Here is a video of bird dogs doing thier thing. A bird dog's job is to lock up and stand like a statue when they catch the scent of game birds. They are steady until the hunter flushes the birds and then they find downed birds and retrieve them to thier master.

I've bird hunted most my life and have to say its my favorite kind of hunting. Hitting birds the size of your fist that fly extremely fast is a challenge that I love. There is no comparing bird hunting to deer hunting IMO. One is sit and wait and the other is move and find then do your best to hit them speedy little buzz bombs. Watching the dogs is probably what I enjoy the most.

Bird hunters are the quick draw kings of the hunting world.

I like bird hunting as well, but you could always spot and stalk deer. That is if you get bored easily like my self. The only thing i hate about using hounds, not dogs, but hounds, is how stupid the damn things are. They get that hair up thier @ss and they just don't stop. Do you find this valuable?
