What do you think it should cover. I mean besides the Z-Survival basics. Do you think traditional education would have any merit and to what grade level? 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

It will always depend on the location, current level of technology, and how much educated people and educational materials at your base there are. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Up to an 8th grade level of general education + vocational schooling, sad to say but for the next few years after Z-day a masters or a doctorate won't be of too much help to your average settlement.

Math would be more focused on. Vocab, english, writing, who gives. You have a world to rebuild, engineers are better than lawyers.
The dictionary might finally change alot to an actual word :D

Well due to labor needs, do you think some skills like hunting and cooking should be taught?

I do think reading and writing should be taught. Simply for use in everyday life and communication.

I disagree with a lot of what I'm seeing here. Yeah, there will be a greater demand for applicable skills and manpower, meaning abbreviated education.

But in a post apocalyptic world there will be no standardizing effect of mass media on language. Combine this with a tiny population divided into islands of humanity, and the result is a very high risk that the language itself would collapse in just a few generations' time into several different languages that were not mutually intelligible.

I think English would be the most important part of post Z-day education.

And it's going to be damn sad when your best engineers butcher sentences like pigs.

True, what good is the world's best engineers if they can't communicate their ideas to the builders?

I believe that education will be a lot more important to a post Z-day society than it is for today's. There won't be computers to do thinking for us, so we have to rely on the one thing that can keep us alive: our creativity. English would be important for people to communicate, debating would be necessary to keep peace and a freedom of opinion, science would be necessary to continue our advancement, mathematics and art to rebuild and advance our infrastructure, history to keep us from repeating the mistakes that got us to Z-day in the first place. 4  out of 4 found this valuable. Where as I don't think knowing trigonometry or who they conquerors of Rome were 2000 years ago would really be important, there should be certain skills taught to younger individuals. One of the most important runes of ZPOC is be able to improvise. Without creativity and imagination this becomes a lot harder since you don't have the ability to think outside the box. Whereas imagination can't be taught it should be encouraged. Do you find this valuable?

Imagination and education go hand in hand, you don't have to choose between them. Knowing angles and lengths of triangles would also be incredibly useful in building large structures a long time post-z day. Also knowing how countries or cities fail, collapse or are overthrown would be very useful too. Do you find this valuable?

i think youve got to hang onto what we already know and maintaining our heritage also keeping a record of events for histories sake but for the firt while of the crisis it would be all about survival skills and life skills primarily Do you find this valuable?

There are a few more things I believe that need to be taught.

Community Spirit

Values and Morals

Sport/Physical training (Much of)

Self defence

They are not academic as such however vital for a strong and effective settlement.

Agreed. There is plenty our "leaders" have failed to learn or have completely ignored wrong doings which have ruined us.

There are so many examples of this I mite need multiple postings!
