Until we have a specimen to test, we really won't know.Given that zombies are based on humans, and we are predominantly sight-based creatures, I'd go with that. In fact, you can probably get an idea of which senses will be used based on their current range is measured Sight: Miles Sound: Yards Smell: Feet Touch: Inches Taste: Zero Do you find this valuable? |

by observation in the various 'Dead' series of films, it's a combo of sight and sound.Sound may be the dominant and longer term sense In Dawn of the Dead (remake), the zeds reacted swiftly to the manhole cover thud, queing visual for the attack. In Day of the Dead (original), the zeds come out of the woodwork in reaction to the (idiot) female character blasting on the bullhorn (plus the helicopter in the opening sequence). Also, when they return to base, she tells the above ground (snack) crew to keep their movements reduced during the day so the zeds calm down along the fence line. I'm certain others may find references to back up each sense, but it stands to reason that something wandering about aimlessly will take audio cues then zero in from that. "Until we have a specimen to test, we really won't know.I'd take sound over sight... LOS for a person depends on the terrain. I'm not from the farm belt, you can't see for miles here. However, echos here can carry for quite a distance if loud enough... Additionally, your not going to have all the ambient noise of modern society as you do now. Do you find this valuable? |

"I'd take sound over sight...The problem with echoes it that they are tricky, i live in a city and the bouncing of the sound its amazing, is almost like a mirror, if you fire a gun, zombies will most likely go in the opposite direction P.S.: The dispersion of the sound also depends on the terrain so's smell Do you find this valuable? |

So the conclusion is that what you have to watch out for is sight? Treat a zombie as a moving motion detector? If so, do you guys have any ides for decoys or distractions. And the first mall ninja who says holographic projector or some other nonsense... This isn't a Phillip K. Dick novel turned movie. Anyways, assuming a zombie hunts with all three senses, could we come up with answers based on range and dominance of the senses. For instance, if I was 10 feet from a zed, would having a fire cracker go off away from me help? Or would the zed be locked on my scent? Do you find this valuable? |

Well like most answers it will depend on the type of Zombie.Ragers: most likely they will use the same senses meaning Sight > Sound > Smell Depending on how the virus will influence them it could lead to loosing one or more senses and/or improving the other ones. Slow ones: 1) if they are rotting, eyes will quickly turn useless, also hearing will be fairly fast reduced. 2) if they are in a state of semi life, Seeing and hearing could be reduced but still functioning a very long time. 3) if they are "magic/mystic" like they hell is full stuff, everything is possible Do you find this valuable? |
