"Dishing out the cash to buy legal fully-automatic weapons, then taking away the ability to use that firepower is just silly.

They sell pistols like that in semi-auto only, y'know."
Missed this the first time round.

Yes, I am aware that many of these weapons are available in semi auto only (pretty much all of the civilian legal ones as far as I know), and if you plan to lay out cash for it I agree that it would be better to get one of those.

If you happen to get your hands on one after the SHTF, however, (salvaged from a dead body, captured from a raider, found it in an abandoned basement, whatever) it may be one of the full auto ones. If so, it may be worth modifying it somehow to conserve ammo (which will likely be precious and in short supply), especially if you are planning to hand it to someone you think would otherwise be inclined to spray and pray by holding the trigger down and waving it back and forth like an aerosol can, desperately hoping to hit something.

Now this assumes head shot style zombies, where accuracy will be more important that volume of fire, as full auto is less likely to ensure clean hits to the cranium. If your zeds are easier to dispatch, though, the ability to spray a weapon like a fire hose may be beneficial as well, especially for those times when they come at you in numbers.

If you don't have a firearm and you join this group and I have any say, you just won't get one. If you don't know how to shoot you get to do the maual labor around our compound while the warriors go out and fight. You'll be doing things like cooking, cleaning and washing dishes and clothes with the women. I know that sounds harsh but thats just the way it'll be for the inexperienced and ignorant. 0  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

That kind of society bugs me. The one where you are either a manly man soldier, or doing forced labor for the manly men soldiers, because they are so manly.

Here's one: Why don't you *teach* the people who don't know how to fight?

@WN: If you are looting, you are not going to consistenly find Walther MPL submachine guns.

I also think it would be a good idea if your handgun was, you know, a handgun. The kinda thing that fits into a holster really well.

"@WK: If you are looting, you are not going to consistenly find Walther MPL submachine guns."
LOL, you are absolutely right.

But then, I don't need to find them consistently, i only need to find just one.

Seriously though, if a semi-auto or select fire MPL (or some similar SMG) ends up being my sidearm or choice, then I'd try to have it before the SHTF rather than after. Likewise if I was looking to have a "standard issue" weapon, as your odds of finding (scavenging) large numbers of any one type of firearm are slim.

Maybe, but there are ways around that.

Because this is to be a "standard issue" weapon lists, everything needs to be uniform and easy to use/train with. You have to expect that only %20 or so of the people you will be issuing it to will know how to use it effeciently.

Rifle: FNH SCAR-16L SBR model

Pistol: Glock 31 (men) and Glock 32 (women)

Shotgun: Ithica Model 37

Special-purpose firearms: (Any non-standard, niche-filling firearms, can choose more than one.) Remington 700 XPS Tactical in .308 for kids who wanna play "sniper" or any experienced shooter that is confident in being a designated marksman.

Knife: CKRT Ultima (almost replaced the Ka-Bar for US Military)

Additional melee weapons: 18" Expandable ASP for human control, Ka-Bar kukri, some sort of taser for further human control

So why would you issue a Glock with increased recoil and muzzle blast as a female sidearm? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Smaller frame for easier use and size. I've seen a lot of women that would have done more damage with an M9 is they hit someone with it because it was too big for them to properly handle.

Rifle: AR-15 Many Vets here that know this weapon intimately, highly customizable, and great accuracy. Come on 300 yards with iron sights.

Pistol: 1911 Reliable, safe, always ready to shoot, and name a better pistol round than the .45 ACP.

Shotgun: Mossberg 500. Simple and easy

Knife: Ka-Bar distinguished military history.

Special-Purpose: AR-10 with a scope for marksman, Saiga-12 for an Emergency Response Team.

Not everybody would be receiving the complete issue of weapons.

Perimeter Guards: Would need a rifle more than a shotgun or pistol.

Scroungers: Would need something light that takes up little room. So they would get a pistol before a shotgun.

Gate Guards: Would get Shot-guns and pistols. Maybe even some light Body Armor

ERT: Would be better to have the Saiga-12 and pistols. Also possably with some Body Armor.

Not really. The trigger reach and grip width, which along with grip angle are the most important aspects of pistol grip, are identical between the two pistols - the only, only difference is grip length, which hardly makes a difference. Whereas, the M9 suffers from both a very long trigger and a wide grip with detachable panels, a whole different issue.

However, you lose sight radius and get worse recoil and muzzle blast with lighter weight and shorter slide and barrel. All in all, I don't really think it helps.

But if you're looking for female friendly, why not general issue 9mm? Easier for everyone to shoot, and good enough to kill most things you'll need a handgun for.

"...and name a better pistol round than the .45 ACP."
It could be argued that a .45 is more gun than you'd need to stop a Zed. Given that any round that penetrates the skull will do the job, I would go for something with less recoil and greater capacity.

Now if I was expecting to be shooting at raiders instead of Zeds then yes, the .45 might be more appropriate, but if I was shooting at raiders I'd rather use the rifle or the shotty anyway.

You really want to run around with a gun that weighs 6.6 pounds (unloaded) on your hip? An all steel 1911 is only a little over 2 pounds.

It's just too big and heavy to be an effective sidearm IMHO.

You never get to choose who or when you get to fight, so you must carry a weapon to cover as many requirements as possible, and if you look at the people I would assign pistols to, a scrounger needs more carrying capacity for loot than weaponry. He would have an escort though that would be better armed (Shotgun, or Rifle).

I was under the impression that the grip is thinner as well as shorter.

I would have put it as a special-purpose weapon. Those things are more like inexpensive PDWs to me.
