"
@ Outlaw do you use a predator call?"
For the Coyote?? I use a rabbit distress call . Seems to be one of their favorites around here.....not sure why, I never see many rabbits.

That might be it.. they look on the rabbit as a delicacy..

"It must be nice to live in a state that allows you to hunt with both a firearm and a bow in the same year. Where I live, if I hunt rifle for deer, I can't hunt bow for deer. You get one season per animal, so usually I try to spread it out I.E elk with bow, deer with rifle. On a positive note we can shoot a bear with whatever we want here In Oregon, but you can't use hounds."
Actually there are so many deer in Michigan that we can get 3 with bow, 2 with shot gun, and 2 with muzzle loader. Doe permits are free and handed out at will (to use a licence on female deer).

There is also a law being passed to have a hand gun season. Also as many as you can hit with your cars!

Awesome fender meat, already tenderized, just like mama used to make. But seriously seven deer total, that is incredible. Plus you get to hunt whitetail which are larger than the black tail I get to chase. You guys in Michigan have the potential to get a lot of meat. Hopefully I'll fill the freezer this year with an elk.

Alas I was an idiot, and didn't send my draw application on time this year, thus missing my chance at a moose license. Moose is the only thing I've ever hunted and that with an old military surplus .303 Enfield belonging to my dad.

I plan to get my own rifle sometime this year (I hope, I hope) a semi-auto .308 and once I have a firearm of my own, I will resume my moose hunting in the next season. I am also considering applying for bear and caribou licenses. After I get my rifle I will be seeking a 12 ga shotgun, maybe a Saiga if its legal to hunt with and the heavens smile upon me, at which time I will also take up hunting game birds, rabbits and the like.

In this province, anyone with a valid hunting license who has not already filled their tag can also use whatever firearm they were already hunting with to take coyotes. If you do not have any other license or have already filled your tag, you can also get a coyote license separately, but that comes with a bunch of restrictions concerning what types of firearms and calibers you can use.

As for gear, its like Flashlight50 said, most hunters that I know don't use any special gear. We just dress warm, and in plenty of orange.

My dad shot a nice three point in the antler today. The old man had a decent head shot at about sixty yards, but seeing how he never practices anymore he clipped the antler. Knocked him down at first, so he was content that he had hit him, so he didn't chamber another round. Low and behold the buck jumps up and high tails it like it had a rocket strapped to it's ass. Oh well, we have another six days left to the season, and the bucks just started following in the does, so we should get another chance.

The sad thing is about an hour later, after flicking him a bunch crap about missing a relatively easy shot, I missed a bear. But in my defense he was a lot further away, maybe sixty five yards. Hey,, I was hung over...XD

All and all it was a pretty piss poor day to be hunting with us, but if it was easy everybody would do it.

LOL thanks.

And the antler thing made me LOL.

Once, my dad was bear hunting out in Colorado. He and my grandfather came across one sitting down, eating a leaf. So, my dad lines up a shot and fires at the bear's chest. However, he didn't realize that the guy was shooting high. It hit the bear square between the eyes. It fell, and didn't even twitch.

My sister got a bumper Bambie this morning. She called and was whining about her car. I freaked her out when I went over and gutted it and tossed it in the back of my Jeep.

She bitched that she wanted me to give her a ride to work, because her car had to get towed to a repair shop. So what are you doing with that deer? I replied: why wast perfectly good meet.

I took it home and skinned and cut the meat off and dropped the meat off to get some hunters sausage made.

We're not allowed to do that where I live. It's stupid (like you said, why waste good meat) but any animal that is struck by a motor vehicle has to be reported and collected by the department of wildlife for proper disposal. I think they're afraid that if people were allowed to keep the meat from animals struck out of season or without a big game license, people would go around trying to hit eight hundred pound animals on purpose, totaling their cars in the process just to get the free meat. LOL.

Of course, the rumor that this regulation only exists so that the wildlife officers can themselves keep the meat is surely without basis, and I give no credence to it whatsoever.
:o)

Here in MI, the police officer on the scene will give you a tag for deer. If you want it otherwise many times they will call a local homeless kitchen, or etc. and have it picked up. They take them for cheep meat, because most processors will skin, butcher, and package the deer for the agencies.

I already have 2 cut up and frozen or canned already. With those 2 and 1 from her car, and 2 with my shot gun, I will have over 1/2 of the meat I will use for a year.

Between deer, fish, rabbits, squirrel, and turkey, I will have 90% of the meat I will eat in a year, occasionally I buy some hamburger, or steaks.

So my father and my uncle finally filled their tags on the second to last day of our general rifle deer season here in Oregon. My father got a nice three point (western count), way bigger rack than mine, but weighed less dressed out, and my uncle got a nice little forked horn(2x2). The rut came really late this year, with the last week of the season being the very beginning stages. Chalk it up to global warming I guess, but we the bucks just weren't hanging out with the does until right at the end. Any how, next week is my elk season, and i'm pretty stoked about that.
