The key to planing for an urban survival situation is to come up with a plan no one else thought of, because chances are if someone else thought of it, EVERYONE thought of it. Don't think that just because your still living means someone won't hesitate to pop you off for that last gallon of water.

The basic requirements: Travel light, think before you pack, would you wanna carry an 80 pound bag clear across town? and thats a short distance when your planing to survive.
Reuse, recycle: When packing your "bug-out" pack, now is the BEST time to think of things you can reuse, or if they break or are used up, can be recycled.

My plan: I haven't put much thought to it but in the event of a zombie related apocalypse I'm going to pack what I can from home, take my vehicle down to the docks, collecting gas on the way. When I get there, maybe try to find a ship qualified enough to travel to Ireland. Once there, i'd locate and fortify a castle. Once a safe haven was established, i'd begin branching out from there, searching for survivors, and supplies and gradually bring them to the castle. I have lots of seeds for vegetables and fruits, so i'd start a garden inside the protective walls. Thats that, if I get offed while i'm away from the castle then some lucky survivor gets a nice place :)

Welcome to the site Jayke. Here are my thoughts on your plan:

What if there's nothing but gridlock and you can't drive?

How are you going to collect gas? During The Panic, people are going to be panic buying (hence the name) everything, and that includes gas. When a hurricane is about to hit a town, most gas stations have lines around the block. Imagine how much worse it will be when everyone actually has a reason to fear for their lives.

When you say "find a ship" you mean steal it. What if the owner is there protecting his boat with a gun? You'll be stuck on a dock. And if you do steal a ship, do you know how to operate and maintain it? What will you eat while on the water?

If you do find a castle, how will you fortify it? What will you eat in there? You have seeds, but growing food will take a while, that is if there's even soil inside the castle that can sustain plant life.

This page will explain The Panic: http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/page/The+Panic

Also, isn't your plan based a bit heavily on circumstances? And also you seem to be overlooking things. Even assuming you do get that gas, and get to the docks, and escape, what do you eat? What do you drink? How do you make sure your water is clean?
How do you get into a castle? What if someone's there first? This plan has more holes that I can see, than a cheese grater.

It's kind of hypocritical, saying at first that if it is your first thought, it is everyone's first thought.

Then he goes on about the same-old-same-old plan.

Before you think we are mocking you, we're not. This site is to learn.

Take a look at some of our regulars' plans. It might give you some ideas. The one statement I can leave you with is this:

If you don't have it now, or know it now, you will not have it or have skills magically handed to you after the apocalypse. Start stocking up. Start learning.
