HellfireBlue: Survival Plan- Point out the holes
Nov 3 2010, 12:58 PM EDT
I'm new, and, while I have been thinking up a plan for a while, it, of course, will have plenty of holes in it. So, could you please point them out to me. I live in Nottingham, And am a Teenager. And, so, if the Zombie Apocalypse was to happen, say, now, My only supplies would be knives from the kitchen, a metal chair leg of mine, cylindrical, and pack of cards and a stick. But, I get £5 a week, and am currently saving up to build my a survival kit for myself, just in case. Gear I will, hopefully have, as, in time, i'll have the funds to buy the following, or have them in my house : Metal Baseball Bat Knives Metal Chair leg, baton-ish shaped, if neccasary, a mop, the end cut off and sharpened, and, possibly, a Bow and arrows, which I know how to make, and use, In theory. In theory, town, I think, is where most people would become zombies,or die, so, for the frist 2-4 days, once the Zombie outbreak had begun, I would stay at home, in which time, I think, Zombies would move out, towards where I live, on the edge of the city, about 10 minutes by Bus from Town. In this time, I would go to Clifton, and, if, by this point, the command structure had broken down and the law had become almost nothing, thus assuming the Outbreak is wide, I would loot the Mccolls there, and, potentially, set up a temporary base in it- about 2 stories, realitively small, with squared bars on the window, so if zombie were trying to get in, I'd only have to barricade the door. As far as I know, that door is the only entrance. After that, I'd go back home, asuming I didn't run into zombies, and, If I did, a small number I could handle. A larger number, I run. Also, I would be doing this, most likely with the help of my twin, who also has a plan. We go back home, and wait another day.Thishis is where my plan fails. After this I have no plan, except, to get into Nottingham castle. What are the problems? Do you find this valuable?

Invest in a food dehydrator and vacuum sealer and a whole lot of spare bags, allot of backpackers conserve on the weight of their backpacks when going hiking into the bush. By dehydrating your own food and vacuum sealing it your save a ton of weight that in the long run will help you run fast and farther without getting as tired. Another good idea to have in your backpack is a filter straw with replacement filters like this ( http://www.aquasafestraw.com/ ), they are small and light weight as well and each filter can filter gallons of water for drinking. One thing what is also good to have is multiple ways of starting a fire for cooking and heating, fire piston, flint & steel, water proof matches, cheap bic lighters are very handy to have.

Thanks. Another thing I would have would be some medicines, and salt. See, you probably know this, but If I have salt, worst case scenario, I could rub salt into a wound, since it disinfects it, apparenlt,y though stinging. Also, In the next few months, I will buy some books about herbs, and how to recognise plants. They used to make medicines from herbs, so I figure chemicals in certain plants and herbs could be midicinal. I'd like a bow and arrows, which I could make, but I doubt I, at my age, would be able to buy some. Any ideas? Plus, what is wrong with my plan?

First you never want to barracade yourself in any building with only one way in or out because you risk the chance of getting yourself trapped like a rat with no way out. the top three best and most secured places to hold out in during the zombie apocalypse would be 1. underground car parking lot with only 3 ways inside an elevator, stairs and the main parking shutter where you drive your car into, you can block the stairway door by parking a car in front of it and you disable the elevator by cutting power to it and then weld the doors shut at the parking level, the mainparking shutter can be disabled the same way an the elevator by cutting power once your secure in there you'll be safe from even radioactive fallout and allot of radiation in case the government decides to start nuking hotspots with the most zombie activity. 2. secured public storage lots with high chainlink fences and metal security shutters, during the chaos and confusion most of the staff will abandon the place to be with their families, the best thing to do is rent a storage lot and put your own padlock on the shutters so when all hell breaks loose you just bug out to the storage lot and lock yourself and your supplies in so no zombie will get inside. 3. a cabin in the remote wilderness because zombies will go where the food ( people ) are and the father you are away from everyone else the better off you'll be, get to know the lay of the land and set lots of traps around the cabin. in a pinch you could fortify the root cellar and hold out down there. P.s. I notice that most of your weapons are melee weapons, the last thing you want to do is try and fight a zombie in close quarters the blood splatter could easily become a problem if infected blood gets into a cut or scrape, a bow and arrow is a good choice for a weapon on zday because a bow and arrow is quiet, loud gunfire can actually attract more zombies. pretty agree and second everything Grim saidalso dont RELY on looting because you always need to remember that that's what others will think of and that 1) everything COULD already be gone 2) tons of people are gone be by the store for the reason of looting which would either mean panicking mobs or hungry zombie mobs and also though im not sure your exact city layout or where your house is related to it if you are indeed on the edge of town you might have a better chance at BO since you wont have to deal with the denser populated area in the center of a city (people, traffic, etc.) this of course has to be judged DURING the event since again im not sure of your exact situation also though i dont know if ide use it personally for the broom/mop handle dont waste your time sharpening it just try to cut it at a steep angle and then you have a sharp point without taking valuable minutes to sharpen it with a pocket knife and also if you got a metal bat forget the metal chair leg ... its essentially the same thing but i would literally bet money on that the chair leg is gona be less wieldly and way less durable also TRAIN with your weapons if your good at shooting a bow then keep at it dont let your skills diminish over time and for the spear try training with that too cuz honestly not the easiest weapon to wield when stabbing (esp. if its a long spear) just go to a hardware store buy some POS broom or mop, take off the broom/mop end, and try stabbing at a tree with it ALOT (until you can get 3-5 full strength thrusts in a row on your target which would be the size of a human head ... plus you dont even gota sharpen it to just practice) also post up your brothers plan or his changes to yours or whatever since it seems your obviously gona be working together Do you find this valuable? |

Hellfire, it sounds like everyone is leading you in the right direction. First, remember the basics. In the following list, I am trying to convey assess the situation you maybe in during the whole year, adjust to when the APOC occurs, and then be ready to adapt to anomalies such as early season changes or freak weather or environments. 1) Safety from immediate threat (are you close to being capture, dying, and/or zombificiation?) 2) Clothing or extreme weather clothing (this includes shoes preferably boots that protect your ankles from breaking or spraining. I can not tell you how many times my combat boots saved my ankles ... :-) ) 2) Water (Protection from the Elements - [clothing\shelter\firebed] - extreme cold) 3) Food (Fire in cold climates - need to melt water or fire defrost food) 4) Shelter and fire** - (Food and Water - extreme cold - you burn a lot more calories in the cold working than you think and of course you will sweating, hot from your clothing, and extreme cold will suck the water from you - you will need water). 5) Weapons (for protection or maybe for food) **Fire is when you run out of stored food and are hunting now. You can always forage too. This is a good skill to learn during the good times. Since you live in the UK, it is a little harder to own a gun, so go for Longbows and Crossbows until you can ascertain a gun legally (hunting) or by chance (do not rely on chance - if you own, possession is 100%). Melee should be used when you are either surprised or have no other choice. You always run because melee increases your chance of dying and/or turning into a zombie. You may also get comfortable with melee and all of sudden you are surrounded by the horde to fight your way out of or take your life. And lastly but just as important, avoid Irishhitman ... ;-) Do you find this valuable? |
