Systema

Yes. I want you to look up Systema and give your thoughts on it. It is Russian and is approximately 10 centuries old. Systema is the name for it made by the Special Operations units of SpetsNaz. Look it up, I think you'll like what you see.

Like most martial arts, nice in concept, pretty fail in practice. It relies on some pretty solid ideas, with proven body leverage and some very vicious takedowns. However, think about it, how many of these ninja moves could you pull off in real life? Pop someone in the back of the knee precisely as you step past? Cartwheel throw someone while they're fighting back? I mean, even their bread and butter punch targets an area about the size of a baseball. It's almost cavalier how much skill systema is supposed to take to use with even slight proficiency. But if someone has the time to do that, it's Spetsnaz, right? My advice: Take the leverage concepts, try to make them more practical. Instead of a precision pop to the knee, why not a sweep kick? How about adapting that arm lock to a baton? Mix and match to your own, more real life needs. Do you find this valuable? |

There's a club not too far from me that teaches this. Although I haven't trained in it too much, a lot of people do like it, and I know this club trains some pretty hard-core types (like high level elite police teams- think Emergency Task Force). I'v e talked about the club to a Russian friend of mine who trained in Combat Sambo before he left the country, and he hasd been by this club as well- he talks pretty highly about the instructor. This leads me to believe that it may have some merrit, or the instructor is really good and teaches his own thing that doesn't really match what the other Systema guys are doing. Havwen't seen too much on youtube about it, but if they are promotiung the style- maybe they are just showing the most flashy techniques they can think of, and not what they actually train in. I've heard like Kali, their stick and knife stuff could be pretty good. Other thoughts? Do you find this valuable? |

Any particularly high skill technique is going to take a whole lot of work to make practical, so I'd still mix and match martial arts. Do you find this valuable? |

Because some people like it doesn't make it good for you either. Just that some people like it, and they happen to be people who put their life in their training- but that's not for everyone, and this style wasn't for me either. Everything is going to take a whole lot of training to pull it off, better to stick to the low skill techniques, and still train the hell outta them. Then how good would you be? The simple stuff done insanely well....Keep mixing it up and find your own way- I think you're on the right track, just test things against progressive resistance to make sure it works. Nice. Sambo karate is about the best thing to come out of Russia. Personally, its one of my favorite martial arts (note my avatar).

I don't like hurting people =^_^= But I love weapons for some reason. But that's not the reason why I'm posting here. I have to disagree with Alex.. =*_*= Khlysty mysticism and Rasputin... though Siberian... Is totally the best thing to come out of Russia! =^___^= Do you find this valuable? |

Despite that grease covered heretic (his branch was outlawed..) actually found groups of people to have orgies with while he smelled of booze and the onions he ate like apples, he could stop hemophilic episodes through strength of personality! =O_O=Why, In his omniscient wisdom and fairness, he set up shop in his favorite cafe where anyone could come and bribe him for an official position! =^_^= While the Tsar was away at the front darling ole Raspy (as he has me call him when his ghost visits me at night.. =^____^=) even appointed a guy suffering from third stage syphilis to the chief of the police force in Moscow! How understanding and equal opportunity! Even if the police were lead after pink elephants from time to time... Hey, they might have been real and only the delirious guy saw them! =>_<= Three cheers for Raspy!!! =^___^= Do you find this valuable? |
