Drugs?

How about prescription drugs? People will still have high blood pressure and other chronic ailments. Not to mention prescription narcotics will be worth their weight in gold, like House's favorite. Do you find this valuable?

or barter anything very quickly. Someone smart will be raiding the pharmaceuticals while others are raiding a wal mart.

No. Smart people won't be raiding at all, until mass-panic has died down.

I have a feeling people who need those drugs, won't last long. Not even if they are good at finding them.

Now drugs like crack, and marijuana will likely explode in popularity, resulting in communities/gangs who sue this as a form of trading currency.

For those folks like say my mother who are on 10-15 different pills a day she'll be done in a few weeks. So trading to folks who are really desperate for it might be a small market as they'll die off fast.
Alot of people are on just a high blood pressure or high cholesterol drug because they are borderline or just eat poorly and counter it with drugs. They'll last a long time even without drugs so won't care to trade for them and for many of them zday might be the best thing health wise for em if they live.
Vic, oxy and other painkillers easy to use as crack like drugs might be good for trade but I'd worry about bartering with a crackhead.

This right here is one of the best justifications for disaster preparation versus trying to make do without prep. If one cannot find any other reason to do so, all it takes is a realistic look at one's health (or that of a loved one or close friend) to bring things back into reality. Many people are alive right now because of the medication they are provided, and if that supply is cut off.... you get the picture. Having extra might mean the difference between life and death for them.

That being said, I also consider "getting in shape" and physical conditioning as important a part of survival prep as carrying (legally, of course) a concealed firearm is, or keeping stores of food at the house, or having a BOB prepared to rock and roll. Our bodies, minds and our health are the reason we even do this, so it makes the most sense to have that prepared too, no?

PS: Not that I'm bragging or anything, but if *anyone* here wants weight loss advice, always feel free to ask me. I have been VERY successful losing over 100 pounds in the last two years and I'm becoming pretty damn fit. There are a lot of different ways to do it, and it's a lot of work, but if you want advice or a pep-talk, feel free to PM me.

I agree, I think i meant lucky rather than smart IF someone was able to get first dibs on the pharmaceutical drugs.

actually, I think doing it during the panic might be a good idea....in this case only.

The average Joe isn't going to be thinking about heart pills when he's fighting a hobo over a Coleman stove in wal-mart.

yeah but where are you gona go during a panic situation to get prescription drugs?
hospital? mega stores (walmart, target, etc.)? walgreens? cvs? HOSPITALS?! (yes i put it twice on purpose)

yeah i have to agree might be a good barter item (but who knows who wants what you decide to take unless your use an entire duffle bag to carry 209489 bottles of different meds) and my luck ide pick up everything no one wanted/needed lol
just saying its more of a crap shoot cuz EVERYONE will need guns, food, water, ammo, and all that zazz but whats your luck your gona find an HONEST and MORAL junkie or drug dependant ill person who's made it that long without their meds (they either dont really need em or are dead already :\ )
