The Weak?
Dec 4 2010, 3:53 PM EST | Post edited: Dec 4 2010, 3:53 PM EST
I know most of us have ripped on weak people on this site but have you ever thought of useing them to our advantage like the old saying goes "When you're being chased by a bear, you don't have to run faster than the bear; you just have to run faster than the other guy."
Me personally if they have no advantage for them being in my group, they will be assigned to my "Rear Guard" group.

I am just curious as to how you define the "weak", I am old, beat up, and no where near as mobile as some one half my age. I do not think by most definitions I am weak. Another thing to consider is if they are weak, might be they have other talents, that you could really need. Just something you should think about. Do you find this valuable?

No one has ripped on the weak, there has been topics on deciding on what to do with other people that are less self sufficient and I am sure that your option there was not the best choice. Everyone plays a part in the post apocalyptic small society they just have to realize what it is. Useless skills before the apocalypse may be extremely sought for after the apocalypse. That's the thing about skills, they can be learned. Other than that, it's always good for morale to have people around, and I'm not sure how many friends you would make using them as a buffer Do you find this valuable?

So you are so devoid of human morality that you would throw these 'weak' people at an enemy as chump change for the privilege of surviving?

It is people like you that I will have my eye on come Z-day.

Also, very (very) rarely will you come across somebody that has absolutely no use.

Do they have eyes, ears and the ability to do simple tasks? Even the best of survivors should eventually get some rest or be able to relax so they themselves can stay useful to their group. Let those useless folks go gather supplies, carry the firewood or share watch during the day with some more competent folks.

There is a thing called weakness of charater. prehapps you might find your self in an ironic posistion. Being selfish, if other survived they most of done soem thign or had soem kind of skill. By that logic they just might leave you so you can see for your self just how strong you are. strength in numbers. having two crappy shots and one good one is better in a fire fight then two ok shots.
Physicality has nothing i would wager to say any non-current millitary person that just an every say joe that doesnt hit the gym, smokes and doesnt do hard physial labor. Isnt going to be in that great of shape.
I was in basic and on our final march people fell out that were in some good shape 15 miles caring 45-60 pounds. Yet this little chick thay was like 4'10 89 pounds completed the march with a hair line fracture of her hip needless to say all the drill sargeants called those whom didnt make it out on that. Strength of charater means alot.

Perfect place to stab the pompious guy so hard he falls off his high horse.

There is no such thing as a weak person. There are however a great many idiots who can't utilize the resources they have and so rather than admit their f.a.i.l.u.r.e they simply lump people into The Weak Group thus freeing them from the mental strain.

the weak are the ones who didn't survive meaning the ones who did survive are not weak they either survived with brains or bronze or maybe a mixture of both.

Also just because they seem not to have any useful skills they are not completely useless.

They can still be used for physical labor like digging trenches, helping making walls, buildings, etc also ever heard of teaching?

You're assuming that everyone dies because they're weak, and that everyone lives because they're strong. I can see an obvious exception right off the bat.

and quick example to back it up

lets say devil nuts has a son/daughter
i think we can all agree devil nuts is a self proclaimed bad ass (highly self proclaimed)
DN's son/daughter survives because he/she is protected by DN
and i think we can all agree that children arent exactly considered "strong" in relative terms here
... well unless DN's kid pops out of the womb with a god damn Ma Deuce

Holy crap. Where do I start?

Weakness isn't defined by who you are but who you're surrounded by. If its you and some nursing home patients plus some 5 yr olds guess what? You're the baddest dude in your group. Everyone would be impressed with your strength and smarts.

Now if you join up with some war heros and tri-athletes guess whos bear bait then?

There is always someone smarter, faster, stronger.........
