caching weapons at your BOL
Dec 13 2010, 5:05 PM EST
i was reading this article about BOLs and realized a few things it left out.if your BOL is secluded like a cabin, it is a smart idea to hide, or cache the weapons and other supplies so that some punks dont steal them while your gone. my sisters house was robbed while she was at work. she lives in a secluded area, the theives knew when she was around and when she wasnt and they took their time to take everything. there werent any neighbors to stop them. something to think about when planning your BOL 1 out of 1 found this valuable. You could always sink a safe into the floor of the basement. You could even purge it with Argon or Nitrogen to help prevent corrosion 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Well if I'd purpose-built my location then I'd probably install 2 or even 3 safe rooms hidden behind wall panels and bookcases and probably a hidden storm shelter/bushfire shelter nearby on the property...I'd split the Mountain House supplies evenly between each location and weapons and ammo too, giving me a number of stores in case I was robbed/raided and they managed to find one cache or even two.

It's not hard at all to bury weapons and ammo in the woods for years with zero issues if you're careful. There are plenty of guides I've seen on the internet, even Cheaperthandirt.com has a big tube designed to be buried and it can hold a couple AR15s.Of course, you've got to remember where your stuff is :) I've toyed with the idea of buying a couple really cheap guns, like a KelTec rifle and pistol and burying them with some ammo and other stuff just in case... But I haven't been able to find the extra cash just to buy a gun so I can bury it. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I suppose you could pick up a cheap double-barrel 12G and a few boxes of shells? Throw in a cheap cloth bandolier to hold the shells when you take it out, maybe a Machete or a Tomahawk for CQB, perhaps a belt loop for the tomahawk, a decent survival knife...er...that's starting to get expensive and there aren't even 7 days of MREs in there yet...or a coupla rolls of super-soft luxury TP, a few chocolate bars, a canvas bag to carry all this stuff...Hmmm..maybe just the shotgun and shells in this hole? try doing some Geocaching that will give some ideas on how to hide stuff. Its the technique KGB used to hide stuff in foreign countries, now its a high tech(or low tech) Treasure hunting game. Look it up.

"Ah...perhaps one of the biggest problems...money!A cheap shotgun and some shells would be another great option, I've seen single shots for under $100. Toss in some shells and you'll have a party! I don't know what else I'd throw in there besides the gun and ammo, maybe cash? MREs and some survival tools like you mentioned? Depends on how big a hole I feel like digging I guess. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"The question is are you buying supplies to fill the hole you just dug, or digging a hole to protect the supplies you already have or plan to have."In my case, digging a hole to save emergency supplies that I plan to buy at some point in the future. If for whatever reason you can't get to your home, or your BOL, wouldn't it be nice to have at least the basics buried somewhere you can get to? A backpack, a gun, some food, maybe a little cash, whatever suits you and your budget. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
