Im Christian but to each his own, I have many athiest friends and some pagan friends. Its simple to get along they know what I believe in and why, and I know what they believe and why. Everybody is Different. I can get along with all types of people and religions as long as they dont force their ways upon me.

"are you located in the above referenced areas? if so then you will be most welcome."No in California, I was just throwing in my 2 cents because of the different views in my group. It consists of a multiple religions, mormons, athiests so on so forth. I would not force my ways on any of them and neither would they. I have a good friend that is a Wiccan and even tho (solely my opinion) her antics are strange at times she has a wonderful personality and generally a great person to be around. If anyone needed help no matter who or what they were I would help them, They are another human being thats what it boils down to. Do you find this valuable? |

I agree with you, Zedshot. I'm a Christian who has friends and acquaintances of other faiths. While do end up at odds every so often, I know that I can count on them in serious situations. As long as a person or group is willing to accept my beliefs, I would openly accept their help. Also, I wouldn't hesitate to offer assistance if a person of differing beliefs was legitimately in need.

One thing I would like to add is the reason you meet so many aggressive christains, is one; you live in Texas, its kinda what we're known for, two; you're a pagan I know many Christains that have no problem with hardly anyone but pagans. The reason for that is that we see it as anti-christain, because the crystal waving fanatics are the only ones we ever meet and know are pagan. We're taught they practice witchcraft and worship the devil. Which is about as anti-christain as one can get. I would take time to explain your beliefs to new comers that aren't pagan, and since pagan is such a covering term maybe use a different one, if it exists. Because if I showed up with out knowing and you said pagan, I'd be slightly on edge myself wondering what kind of pagan, the kind that hates Christains or the kind that loves the earth, or the kind that simply worships different gods. And what do these worships involve. Human scarifice? I know that you don't do that but understand the mindset people would be coming in with. I'm Christain, almost everyone in my area is(Llano county) but most of us wouldn't have a problem with someone of a different faith coming in, I'm not turning away a new set of arms for a differnce in belief. I'm might ask you(after things settle down) if you'd like to know Jesus, as my faith demands it(go into the world preaching the gospel, baptizing in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost), but it would be seperate from surviving. Just like if I invited you to church today, if you refused I wouldn't hold it against you or feel offended but my faith demands I present the opportunity none the less. So understand the christain point of view as well, and expect some not to hear at all and just walk away, because some would. I would allow freedom of religion no matter what, whether the community was christain or pagan. Do you find this valuable? |

Why not just make a community that's not based around religion?

Religion is important, it gives people hope. Right now even most people that claim not to have religion do, they believe in the modern world. They have faith that it will take care of them, they'll still have a job tomorrow, science will find a cure for cancer, etc. Its where their hope comes from. That's what religion is about gaining hope from a power bigger than yourself. So to say no religion allowed will hurt more than help as in the end of the world the modern world will have failed them, they'll have to get their hope from somewhere else. Without hope you can't live, you can survive, but you can't live. I plan on living through and after the end of the world (unless its the Christain end, in which case I will not live through it but be better off anyway). What we're talking about isn't really the end of the world anyway, its the end of the world "as we know it". To build a new world you have to have hope from somewhere, even if its just your group leader.

Its to bad that the religious folks around here don't share that view. Do you find this valuable? |

"It would be a lot better for the world overall if they shared that type of view."It would be, but it won't likely happen with some faiths of sects within faiths still preaching things like "pagans are devil worshippers" (no offense towards christians) when those kinds of statements are based in ancient fear and modern ignorance and most pagans don't even recognize the exsistene of such a being and/or believe that people who would willing follow such a being deserve their punishments. i would like to state that yes i do practice human sacrifice but not in the way popularized by most. it is my belief that every foe you kill in battle is in honor of the gods. outside of that my goal is to live life as a good man and when the time comes for me to die, that i do so to the roar of combat.

I'm pagan, but my brother is a roman catholic. Do you propose we leave behind family because you don't allow christians? this is most shameful behavior on both sides of the argument, and I'm sure that no Godess (or God) would see this as moral.

As an atheist, I don't care at all what the majority believes, as long as there will be separation of church and state.

To each their own is my motto. If people can contribute and aren't pushy in their beliefs they're welcome. I didn't know we had a thread for central Texas I'm in the north Austin area.
