checking if anyone came after you.

I think what you could do aswell is put something like a strip of tape, and fold it so there is a space of air between it. (I mean just rolling a piece of tape up.) If you repeat this, you could put it in a doorway and if the tape is compacted and/or crushed, someone's home.

Or put the tape over the door and frame in a place they're unlikely to see. Or wedge a paperclip into the door that'll fall out when opened. Lots of things.

I think you should always be ready to have for intruders to be waiting for you in your BOL regardless of whether you have traps set. As for me I'm not going to be leaving my doors unlocked so the way i would tell is the door frames being kicked out, or a window broken ;).

*Sneaks around the side of an abandonned looking house and sets to the lock as his shieldsman and gunner keep watch. Not wanting to damage the doorway or provide and easy entrance while making a lot of noise Dono picks the lock... sheesh, this time it took a solid five minutes. What luck right, but its worth it since the group plans on spending the night in the place. Pushing the door open he looks about, as his shieldman checks a window. The coast seems to be clear. The two melee people go in first as the gunner stands watch at the escape route. He brings a ladder up to the second story room, where the group planned to spend the night, to be used as an escape route. The next morning John opens the re-locked door and wonders who had moved his paper clip. =^_^= Do you find this valuable? |

Doesn't hurt to clear your home or BOL every time you enter like you already know the enemy is there.

Yeah Abu, I know I couldn't sleep in a place without first clearing it thoroughly. =*_*=

As far as someone breaking in, either they will still be there, or they won't.If they are inside and have been for some time, you could probably check the kilowatt meter on the side of the house and compare what you find to the reading you took when you were there last -- although this would call for turning off and unplugging EVERYTHING. If your BOL doesn't have electricity, you could check the woodpile to see if there's less outside than last time you were there. Of course there would also be smoke coming from the chimney if the intruder were still inside. Do you find this valuable? |

"As far as someone breaking in, either they will still be there, or they won't.I like the idea of sprinkling ash / dust on the floor and similar measures. Of course, I'd prefer my location just be hard to break into in the first place. Do you find this valuable? |

If I had multiple entrances and exits that were secured from zombie breech, but avaialble for lockpicking BOL ninjas...in an ideal world I'd rig a couple of claymores to the inside of the wooden door at groin height and rig the detonator to the lock of the door...but as I live in the UK and this is reality...I'd like to use the 'Discouragment' technique...by this I mean: Take one downstairs room which you will not use, lightly barricade the window leaving a slight gap, then dress a mannequin in baggy cloths and sit it in a high-backed armchair with the back to the window, stick a crappy old 12G in it's mouth and blow the back of the head out...then make it look real by spreading some blood and gore around, then mark the front door with the Disaster X...you know the one; with the 4 pieces of info in the gaps stating no survivors...it makes the house look empty, but filled with the dead and gore and it'd stink and be disease-filled...most people don't want to share a house with dead bodies so they'd pass it by, but it's all just stage make-up and illusionary effects. Inside the house, if I had the time I'd like to take out the main staircase and replace it with one of those folding attic staircases that can be pulled up, and ensure I have an escape route from the first floor. While for checking for illegal entry: Break a lightbulb on the front steps...if the shards have been ground to dust then someone stepped on them and they might be inside...and the paperclip opened out slightly and pressed into the gap down by the bottom corner would give a good indication as to whether the door has been opened or not... But my fave technique would be to get a little bottle of flavoured schnapps, poison it, and leave it on the side in the kitchen...it's sweet and alcoholic and anyone living in my BOL would eventually drink it. If it opens inward, just put a shoe by the door and see if it moved. Cheap, simple, doesn't stand out(it's a freakin' shoe! Not like ash, glass, and paper clips)
