Weapons of Choice?
Dec 28 2010, 8:54 PM EST | Post edited: Dec 28 2010, 8:54 PM EST
Just like, the top ten weapons you would choose to take with you. I don't know much about which guns would be best so I'm trying to read up on it and I thought I'd ask for opinions.
A lot of the things I've been reading have said a lot of different things and I'm really wondering what the absolute basics would be. I am completely clueless when it comes to weapons so any explination would be great.
Also, what types of clothing and misc items would you classify as essential?

Hi Azarel,

you are very, very new and it might behoove you to use the search function to find the oodles of pages and threads on the topics you've inquired about.
Namely, weapons and basic gear.

We do have some top ten weapons pages and loadout page.

Enough to keep you busy for most of 2011.

personally, i would choose: a rifle, a handgun, and some kind of knife.
for the rifle, a .223, because it is cheap, easy to fire (sounds like you have never shot a gun, and 22 is easy to learn), and it CAN get into the skull (as long as you are close enough, less than a quarter of a mile), and if you buy hollow point, the bullet will 'explode' as is goes through the skull
9mm handgun for the reason (but you must be closer)
and for the knife, you never know if your gun will jam (mine does every 30-or-so rounds) and it might take to long to fix it, i would get something from 'coldsteel.com' ether a bowie or machete (their machetes are some of the best knives you can get), personally i like the kukri or, and i know i will get flak for this, the katana style because it can get sharper, has a longer blade, and i like the feel of it

You need a better gun or a change in ammo.

"You need a better gun or a change in ammo."
Your gun should jam once in the thousands with the quality of modern guns and ammo.

You seem to be confusing .22LR and .223. Don't make the assumption of 'Oh, the size of the bullet is close enough, so they must be similar!' Two very different rounds.

Oh, and I don't think you know what a quarter mile looks like, either. You need spotters to shoot that far.

I'll take a good 1911 over any handgun anyday. I have not personally shot one, but a friend of my dad's let me check it out. I thought it conformed to my hand well and had a nice balance.
Rifles, I like the SKS. I've shot those and they have manageable recoil, good power (they go through 1/4" Steel targets at 25 yards like a knife through hot butter ;) ) and they are in no short supply from what I've seen.
Shotguns, I use the 870 for duck and goose hunting. It works VERY well. It's another one of those guns that could be in the group of most reliable along with the AK-47 and the 1911. And a 12 gauge slug can stop almost any animal out there.

just shouting out what you have and like is gona just instill in her the mall ninja mentality and just buy cool weapons and gear and not know wtf to do with em

OOH it's one of these. :3
My Ruger 10/22 w/scope
Ontario Knife Machete 18" w/sheath
Kabar Mule Tactical Folder
Mini-prybar.

Everyone's going to be waving around handguns, I'll probably find one on the ground in a pool of blood.
