My company went on an FTX one time right after my platoon got a new LT. He was watching my squad go through a STX lane, and I had just been assigned the SAW. When they sprung the ambush I burned through two nutsacks, which was all I had, and then got a M4 mag from my buddy. I popped it in the magazine well and went right back to work. At the end of the exercise the LT calls me over and is like, "Did I just see you feed a mag into that 249? F*ckin' A, Private, let me shake your hand."

Anyway, I carried it in the combat zone and love that weapon.

Am I the only one who thinks the 249 is a fawking pointless gun? I've carried one as well and I hated em.

Oh, and anything from a new LT should be taken with a grain of salt. Just sayin.....

Yeah, that's why I thought it was so hilarious. All I did was use my weapon and he practically crapped his pants over it.

Nope I agree with you, they are worthless. Either assign a machine gunner to us or give us a M60e4 at the time.

Really Chandler, from zooming on your profile pic, you don't look like a military guy. Do you find this valuable?

For a short while when I was on tdy I was assigned an M16A1. No joke, Gordon still has em. And I've decided that rifle mixed with a drum mag would pretty much cover it. I loved shooting that thing on full auto. No kick, and far more accurate than the 249 or the A2 on burst.

This would be much preferred to the SAW in my opinion - Just find a way to put "nutsacks" on the A1, interchangable barrels and you're set. They have 100rd drums (I think) for the AR, so it wouldn't even be that difficult to do.

I've fired an AR-15 personally, and I love it. Very little kick, so I can fire as fast as my finger goes at a vehicle-sized target and connect with every shot. The recoil is light enough that I can get a sight picture on the target after the first shot almost instantly.

I also went shooting with an army guy who had fired an M240 and an M249. He didn't like either of them; fun to shoot, but heavier than you needed them to be and difficult to keep on target.
