I saw one of those f**kers at Cabelas. Damn, imagine the price of feeding .45-70 though that? That's not even mentioning that the gun costs as much as a brand new luxury car. Do you find this valuable? |

If i had the money, and it was legal in the UK, i would LOVE a gatling gun. They're just awesome. There's a hand-powered gatling-gun type weapon in book of Eli, anyone know what it is? Do you find this valuable? |

Overpriced gun + overpriced ammo + heavier than sin(quoting Red dead redemption, which is ok because it's about the same gun) + innacurate + short range + enough rate of fire to waste all your ammo but not enough to save you from it's accuracy = give me my repeating rifle.

I'll stick to my 08 15 Maxim water cooled machine gun , much better gun and cheaper ammo , common 8mm , which I have several 1,000 rounds.

Am I right in thinking the maxim was the popular trench machine gun in WW1? Do you find this valuable? |

"Do you have anything heavy to replace it, incase water supplies run low? or do you have a water source such as a stream near by?In a sense. Variants of the Maxim were in use by the majority of the belligerants in that war. Filadog is talking about (I believe) the MG08/15, which was a lighter version of their Maxim copy, the MG08, that could be used as a more mobile machine gun. Still heavy as ****, especially if you forgot to empty the water jacket before running with the rest of the platoon, but much better than needing a tripod on a sledge mount to drag around in the mud. "super cool gun and all but why even waste the time and energy with a gun type that COMPLETELY sacrifices real accuracy for just more bullets down range"Imagine a horde of 500+ zeds coming at your fort. You have 1 and a half minutes before they reacg you. Are you gonna have you and your let's say 10 people shoot at the horde with bolt-action/semi-automatic rifles or, are you gonna just pull a trigger and use up maybe 1.5-3 bullets per zed not counting the bullet going through maybe 2+ heads. I'm not saying it's the perfect gun, but in a large group situation, it's better than 10-15 people firing rifles. Not offense intended, but I think it has it's uses. Maybe not against individual zeds or groups of 50 or less, but...but, but, but, using up a little extra ammo is better than becoming what you are trying to kill. Am I wrong? "I doubt it needs clean water."I didn't say clean, but personally i'd rather use clean water. I know squat about the maxim, but wouldnt dirty water be much more likely to make it jam? Also, don't they need two people to work? One to shoot and the other to pour water? @ Mr jumbles, I think if you have shed loads of ammo and a gun that f*cks it out like no ones business, accuracy isn't so important lol. Zombies or humans would fall from a continuous barrage of death. If its a human, I'd say a maxim might have a decent fear factor and give them second thoughts about retreating. Of course i'd want a decent rifle nearby as well for those shots which do require some accuracy. Do you find this valuable? |

"I didn't say clean, but personally i'd rather use clean water. I know squat about the maxim, but wouldnt dirty water be much more likely to make it jam? It's basically a jacket around the barrel filled with water, usually with a hose connected to a can. As the gun fires the water is turned into steam, which enters the can and condenses. I forgot the exact numbers, but with a condenser can you can make the water go a long way. It takes a LOT of shooting to get to the point where you're refilling the jacket in battle, and those big guns usually operated in three-man teams so there would always be someone to get more water. As for purity, there's no worries because the water surrounds the barrel; it never touches the mechanism or anything on the interior. Soldiers would often piss into the jacket to provide cooling liquid. The Russian's own version of the Maxim had a filler cap big enough that they could stuff snow into the jacket, providing an unlimited supply of coolant in the winter. Virtually any liquid safe to heat up can be used as a coolant. Do you find this valuable? |

"super cool gun and all but why even waste the time and energy with a gun type that COMPLETELY sacrifices real accuracy for just more bullets down range"My 08/15 is pretty accurate , I used to shoot groundhogs with it at 75-100 yds no trouble. While full auto it is easy to squeeze off single shots because of it's rather slow rate of fire of about 400 RPM I think with a short 4 or 5 round burst it would be easy to hit a human size target at 300 or so yards , maybe a good bit further The water jacket holds about a gallon of water , you don't need to keep pouring it in (!?) After a few belts the water would start to boil and would have to be replaced. In a static position you could attach a hose to barrel jacket and go down to a can where the steam condensed Since I mostly shot mine in short bursts I rarely even put any water in it and never had any trouble. Only purpose of the water is to cool the barrel , I wouldn't use muddy water but doesn't have to be clean enough to drink Gun takes 250 rd cloth belts. I also have a drum reel that attaches to the side and that holds a cut down short belt. Idea behind the drum was that a single man could advance with the gun shooting from the hip or be ready to fire from cover with out having to hook up your belt and ammo can The 08/15 has a Bipod which makes it lighter and more portable but not as stable as the 08 which used a very heavy 4 footed mount These guns were / are very effective machine guns , very very dependable and accurate and shoot a powerful cartridge. I think probably just as effective as modern MGs though the weight is a limiting factor Do you find this valuable? |

What would anyone call a reasonable price for a Browning M1919? A local gun shop has one for nearly $6000
