A complete survival shelter?
Jan 18 2011, 4:04 PM EST
In my short time on this website, and looking on youtube, I am yet to find a fool-proof survival shelter. There are many people who are very well prepared with supplies and weapons etc, but i am yet to come across photographs, videos or even a description of the ULTIMATE survival shelter. Im talking underground shelter, with food, water, weapons, med kits, gold/silver bullion n all that shniz. There are a few videos on youtube of peoples personal underground shelters (excluding basments) but none of them are shown to be kitted out with all the neccessities. We all (I hope) know that nuclear war is probably much more likely than WWZ, and I think an underground shelter/bunker is preferable to a home you could defend. If i was loaded, i'd build an underground bunker. I understand they cost a substantial amount of money (depending on how its built, obviously) so not many people can afford one. I'd apreciate if any of you could direct me to somewhere where there's either a picture, video or even description of such a place. Thanks. Do you find this valuable? |

1. Underground shelter? Limited ways in means limited ways out, especially when you need them.2. Gold/silver bullion? Are you a Bond villain? 3. http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/page/PedroAsani%27s+Survival+Plan By no means fool-proof, but I have tried to cover as much as possible. And I have attempted to cover as many disasters as I could. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

"What's wrong with being a Bond villain? Snazzy dressers, good looking women, capable underlings. And they host the most wonderful parties!"Costs a fortune, and you end up getting eaten by a shark or crushed by a satellite. "I have enough money to cover my mansion in gold. What now? Travel the world, get drunk and sleep with exotic women, drive fast cars and fly in my private jet? No, I'll make an attempt to take over the world through convoluted means." Bond villains don't deserve their money, power or influence. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Well he has already seen mine.http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/page/Cub%27s+Plan I just do not think criticizing someone's BOL, when you technically do not even have one, is cool. A plan is just a plan and if the SHTF right this second that is all you got. Me? Well I got mine and its made out of cement and steel :D BTW Pedro the Bond reference is funny sh!t. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

No sunlight, no views. Are you a moleman? How are you going to feed yourself? Packaged food until it runs out? Then what? Do you find this valuable? |

I would say the best survival shelter is one that no one else knows about or can find. Underground seems like the obvious choice here, but maybe incredibly high ground, on a mountain top would work too. Or on a very deserted island.

"Yeah if one posts about his ultimate underground lair that has only one way in, I'm highly likely to park a tractor on your front door."Yes, but if i had lots of money, i'd built one with several hidden exits. I saw one used as an underground cannabis growing facility with a hydraulic trapdoor beneath a large rock. Having only one way in would be incredibly silly. Besides why would you be so cruel? @PedroAsani, I'd buy bullion to trade with. If the SHTF big style whats the chances people would still use cash, especially without banks? The price of gold has been relatively steady for many decades and i think people would still trade for it if the economy collapsed. I'd lean more towards coins than bars, though i think. Underground shelters offer muuuuch more protection from fallout, and even zombies for that matter. And how would having an underground shelter stop me from getting food? If the ground's barren from radiation it wont make a difference, but if it isn't i could still farm it. and yes, if i had enough money to build an underground fallout shelter id probably stock it with a years supply of food, some decent top soil and many, many seeds. To help grow my evil army of golden killer hooker-cyborgs. Do you find this valuable? |

"I'd buy bullion to trade with. If the SHTF big style whats the chances people would still use cash, especially without banks? "Because when SHTF any kind of currency is worthless, a "rich" yet thirsty man would give up everything he ever had for some bottled water. Do you find this valuable? |

currency, yes. People have traded with precious metals for many thousands of years, long before any formal currency was around. Like i said, if i had the money, i'd still invest in gold and silver coins. In my opinion people would still trade it. Paper would be worthless, but precious metals are still precious metals. Also, before i threw money at gold i'd throw it at food, water, water filtration + purification etc. I think gold is probably at the bottom of the list of survival essentials but i still think its worthwhile to have. Oh, this strike a cord with me!My Dream home would qualify as a perfect shelter. With a few odd modifications that would serve no other purpose than for large angry or undead people attacking, lol. It starts with a field, and in this field sits a 1.5 story shack sized house (a one car garage like shack, k) its windows don't start till .5 story up, and its siding is like that of the St.Louis arch large squares of aluminum, but buffed so they appear to be a solid piece. It has a patio behind it that withdraws into the roof of the garage, that is yes underground but a slope to ground level. There is sunlight on the first lower level, the yard is doted with little domes which is like fiber-optic "wires" and draws the light underground. Electricity is generated by wind turbines, solar-panels, and geothermal technology ending up with a decent surplus. The yard is kept trim with an army of 20 lawn bots, so the domes in the yard will continue to receive and deliver an ample amount of light. There will also be rooms like that of a skyscraper underground, and the layout of a skyscraper-farm would be implemented with changes suitable to my liking (I am a picky eater). The house has an elevator/stairway, the pool has a ladder, and the garage is connected so there are three ways in and or out with out any Survival modifications. However, i will need to be WELL LOADED to build such a magnificent home. (Cry) Do you find this valuable? |
