top rated rifles

keep in mind, guns are tools. You wouldn't use a wrench to hammer a nail, or a screw driver to remove a bolt. The rifle you select depends alot on what you plan to do with it. For bug out/urban survival, the first question is how common is the ammo? What are the odds you can find/scrounge more when needed? While 40 years ago, ammo for the m1 garand and m1 carbine were common because of military use, they are not so much anymore. Most common is the lowly 22lr, probably every other home in the usa has a box laying around. Most stores stock 22lr. 223/5.56, 7.62x39, 5.45x39 and 7.62Nato are in use today. 9mm, 40 s&w, and 45 acp are also more common than 38spec. The farther you go towards hunting type rifles, the harder it will be to find ammo. The 270 win is an excellent round. Most stores only stock a few boxs. same with other common hunting rounds like 30-30 or 30-06. the 7.62 x 54 for the mosig is mostly special order, or at best ball ammo only. The 700 rem is a great rifle, and in 308 would be easy to feed. in 338 nearly impossible to find ammo for. Next is how much firepower will you need? Hunters usually use 1 or 2 shots to take down game, most likely you will need a hi cap semi auto. a 223 is a great assualt rifle, but should you need to take down an elk, moose, etc it's way to small. The best trade off for assualt/and hunting is going to be the 308/7.62 nato round. Available in a number of platforms and a large number of hunting bullet designs this weapon will take down most targets thru 1,000 meters if you are good enough. Recently some hunting ammo is being loaded for the 7.62x39, this round is similar to the 30-30 and would work as a brush gun at 100 meter ranges or so. be aware of mission requirements, before deciding on a rifle. Good luck on Z day

"i think that i would have to choose an russian sks in 7.62x39mm for the reasons stated above"I see alot of people here seem to like the sks. It must be eaiser to get in Europe. I have had several. There is nothing really wrong with the sks other than it's a tad on the big side. The Russian version is by far the best with suprising accuracy. 10 rounds is passable firepower with easy reloads with stripper clips. There are also some that will take detachable AK type mags, this is the best choice. There is a slick, small, light 4x scope that attaches to a replacement rear cover. As I recal they are Russian surplus and run about $80. The rear cover with a rail attached is another $35 or so. Hornady recently loaded a lot of steel cases with modern powder and their 123gr polymer tipped Vmax bullet. This would be by far the best round to use. Russian hollow point ammo would be my second choice. Ball ammo is cheap to practice with, but not the best choice for a combat/hunting round. Keep the bayonet too. it makes a handy monopod rest for prone shooting (rather like the japanese arisaka rifle had). For the money the sks beats out many similar rifles. There is also some slick furniture for the sks in black polymer. My first choice would be the dragonov style. Lets face it, the wood is usually a poor fit and finish to an otherwise decent weapon. Feel free to email me with any questions. Do you find this valuable? |

im a huge fan of the 7.62x39=) thats why my current go to is an ak pistol. plenty of 30 rd magazines, an ok chunk of ammunition. hoping to upgrade to either an xcr or one of those MSAR's in the same caliber. but planning on getting a 5.56 because of the common round.

There are thousands of pages about the guns and facts you just mentioned. Please use the search bar. Your grammer is ooke and you have great statements but its also hard to read your huge block of letters. I am also often guilty of this but I am trying really hard to make my posts easier to read. Just again make sure what you are saying hasn't been said in a while so we can keep the info on this site a little less repetitive. Do you find this valuable? |

6. Before we go down this rabbit trail again... "Top Rated FOR What?"

For what, breaking down barricaded doors with butt strokes? For what, deep frying turkeys down the huge bore when simply shooting one down and cooking it wont do? We can and have gone the gamut, from serious to sublime and stupid on this subject. Using the Search tab works wonders. I'm gonna go all ATAS and think something in the 40 watt range will do.... Allow me to say this politely: ANY weapon you can get your hands on is the best weapon to have.

"Allow me to say this politely: ANY weapon you can get your hands on is the best weapon to have."Indeed Irish. Pre-DayZed, during the Trials of Zed, PostZed, any firearm that shoots and does what is required of it *works*. Everything else is a somewhat minor detail. Incumbent on end user to know of and how to use as many types and kinds of arms as possible to prevent PPP. SNC Do you find this valuable? |

a rock in the hands of a highly trained individual will be deadlier than a bunch of green recruits with the newest technological marvel.so top rated doesnt mean anything because if you cant use it it doesnt matter. Do you find this valuable? |
