Rat traps for squirells and the tweezers are good for grubs and termites. Could also sharpen the tweezers to a point put them on a stik and make a fishing spear. I dont know what a landing net replaement bag is. Do you find this valuable?

Something that doesn't cost any money, just a little time. Learn to spot dogbane or milkweed. They are plants that you can make strong corage out off without using any tools. You can then use the cordage to make snare traps which are easy to set up. Plus there are many things you can do with cordage.

I would agree with rabidbever about using the rat traps for squirells. Don't forget a jar of peanut butter though. Lots of animals (squirells included) can't resist that stuff. As for the net it would be great for net fishing if you rig it right. Wouldn't take much. Some rocks for weights along the sides and some cordage or rope so you can pull it back in and it 'scoops' so the fish don't all get away. hmm as for the tweezers... pull out a splinter or glass from the flesh? Not sure on that one.

Excellent list this month. Now I can't wait to go shopping.

Now in my case, my father is a commercial fisherman, so I'm quite familiar with the techniques needed to make, repair and mount nets of several different sorts. With that in mind, I'm considering saving a few bucks and trying to make the net myself. I'll let you know how it works out.

net making is doable - try using 770 paracord.

There's a section in the SAS guide on how to OR maybe somewhere online.

While on a shopping trip to Walmart, I bought a survival kit in a water bottle for $10.

It includes:

Coghlan's Camper Kit in a Bottle:
•Helpful camping essentials
•Packed in a shatter-resistant polycarbonate water bottle
•Includes:
•1 liter polycarbonate bottle with carabineer
•Camper's multi-tool with sheath
•Flashlight (batteries not included)
•First aid kit
•Poncho

Not a bad deal for what it is. It will make a good start for any one's survival kit, BOB, vehicle kit, or just to take camping.

I've made net before. It's impossible to forget, but it is also extremely time consuming. I like to use the inner paracord strands for light netting.

I only carry one rat trap in my bag, only because they can get a little bulky and take up space. Remember to put tape over the metal tab or it'll slice right through the bag it's in.

Hmmm, turns out I might have a little more problem than I thought. I can't find the rat traps here for anything less than $5 EACH, much less for a two-pack, and while I figured that I'd save a couple of bucks by making the net myself, suitable line to make it is either equally costly or scarce.

We'll have to see how it goes.

So I've blown most of this months budget on the rat traps alone, and that kinda sucked, but I also haven't been able to find the net at all, at any price. Not quite sure what to do about that, because like I mentioned before, suitable line to make the net by hand is either equally costly or equally scarce.
