"Personally I think the 5.56 is over-rated, Yeah it can pierce kevlar, but what good is it when the enemy is NOT wearing armor, it would go right through. This isn't really true though. Here's the thing. The Geneva convention. The military is required to use full metal jacket ammunition, which when not properly placed doesn't do a whole lot of damage. Luckily civilians aren't limited to full metal jacket ammo. The M855 military round has to penetrate I think 5 inches or so (in gel) to make a wound cavity, so that basically means you have to hit bones or vital organs for the round to really get in there and do some damage. But, we can buy whatever bullets we want. You can set up 5.56 to do just about anything. If you want to fight unarmored targets you can get 36-40 grain super fast frangible or hollow point bullets that will all but explode the second they hit flesh. This is what a lot of your varmint / coyote hunters use. And I mean explode, look for videos of the .223 Barnes varmint grenade bullets. Check this out for example: http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/224049/ Not all 5.56 rounds can be grouped into the same category. Do you find this valuable? |

"Pfft, you people and your 308's 556's and 357's... I'll stick with my 303 British."I like the SMLE, but the .303 british is very hard to come by around here. I also rarely see.312 projectiles for reloading around here either. So I would generally have to mail order any ammo or compopnents I would need. Now, an SMLE re-barreled and chambered for . 308 or 7.62x39 might be kind nice to have. Do you find this valuable? |

Hell, ammo is even sold at our CO-OP. Do you find this valuable? |

I'm currently "making payments" on my first M-1 Carbine. Being good friends with the owner of the gun store has its advantages. Unfortunately It comes with a 5 round mag to make it a low capacity rifle... My experience with m-1 carbines has always been good, light comfortable, accurate as a AK,Decent mag capacity and pleasant to shoot. Ammo and mags aren't common like AR's but theres a lot of them still around.... And almost every gun store has plenty of .30 Carbine on hand.

Use on at the range all the time. I get a jam once every 100 to 150 rounds fairly easy to unjam weapon. Pulling th slide usually does the trick. That being said when in the apoc would you need or want to fire so much ammo. Some good stuff Very light Little kick Fairly strong rounnd Light ammo Accuret (I get 6 inch groups at 55 yards iron sights) Great wepon for those in your surival party that are not incredibly gun savy. Ease of use is somewhere between ak and ar Do you find this valuable? |

The best part- the whole rifle weighs 5 pounds- add a stock pouch and you now have 45 rounds with your gun. At the end of the day that can be a lot easier to carry than even a 8 pound Ak/AR.

oh wow the fond memories I have of my little M1 I am sure mine was made by GM as it was stamped "INLAND DIV" on the receiver lol I remember the ammo for it was in a camo box from PMC they are a great hiking gun or a survival rifle in their own way but I would rather have something a bit bigger but still all the same great little rifles Do you find this valuable? |
