Great plan!!!!!
Feb 23 2011, 7:08 PM EST
This is a great plan, and is well thought out.The only Issues I see are fairly minor: 1.Raiders/Other survivors you do not address this, and this will be just as big of a problem as Zed. 2.The source of your spring Where does you spring come from? I have a spring running through my BOL, and I do not control where is comes from, so it can be contaminated. Who knows what a decomposing zed upstream will release into the stream. I have dug a well for my drinking water, and maybe you should think about only using your well for drinking water, and the spring for irrigation, and last resort backup drinking water. 3.Get more farm land 5 acres will not be enough to raise enough food for the number of people you have. You may be able to get enough supplemental food by hunting, by I would suggest clearing as much as you can. The 500 yard radius you are planning to clear may do it, and the right crop could help provide security/slow down zed/raiders.(every try to get through old grape vines, or wild blackberry vines?) Do you find this valuable?

The moat prevents raiders from driving vehicles through the compound. The 500 yard cleared area is a No Man Zone. Anything that walks within that area and poses a threat can easily be dispatched from afar. The only feasible way to take over the compound would be sabatoge during scavenging or if you had a massive group and could over take us be sheer man power. The spring is underground, I believe its fed from runoff from the snow caps. Other than that I havn't looked into it. There is a well will be used as drinking water. The stream and spring will be used for irrigation and like you said last resort water supply, the best we can do is hope that purification works. We plan on making more farmland from the neighboring areas, the farmland within the compound will just be an imediate oppurtunity to grow and will be easily defendable. What we grow outside of the compound, we will just have to pray it doesnt get sabatoged. Do you find this valuable? |

Ok sounds good. You could probably cultivate cleared areas away from your BOL, and hope nothing damages them too much. that is what was done in the Middle Ages Europe. Fields were cultivated way from the main Castle, and food was stored inside the castle. As for a massive group trying to over take you BOL, or laying seige on you, that is just a risk you will have to take.(see the seige of Masada, Castle seiges in europe, etc.) Do you find this valuable? |
