Miniature Kit for bugging out
Mar 8 2011, 9:16 AM EST | Post edited: Mar 8 2011, 9:16 AM EST
I have fiercely looked over Ironhand's example of a bug out bag. I find it quite appropriate and decent.
However, we can't always have our bug out bag with us. We can't always be at home with our guns.

This thought came to me after gashing my arm on something(don't worry, got my shots lol)

I improvised with a ghetto bandage(germ x, tissues, a rag to hold the bandage on my arm)

I want to make a small kit, which can be applied to either school or work. IT isn't so much a bug out minikit, as it is a daily kit for this and that. I could go around on the web searching, but I would hope that, after enough ideas are put together, I can write a small article on the mini kit.

Of course, bandages would be a yes, and a small bottle of hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol.

But my mind aint workin today, can you guys name out some things that'll make a small kit(think a small bag or pouch that is 6x6x1.5/2 inches maximum).

So basically a first aid kit?

Edit: You can get small first aid kits, if you take out some of the less useful stuff you could fit in a lighter, knife or other such usefulness.

Something like this or even a simple digital camera pouch would work for a small bag to keep the essentials in.

It'd hold a lighter, tinder, a pocket knife, a few first aid supplies, maybe a space blanket and a small bottle of water purifier tabs.

a good start there timber, i got a few addons to make though

a mini flashlight, a whistle, possibly a metal collapsible cup, and a pen and paper.

as for the pouch itself, i'd be more inclined to use a surplus pouch cause thats something i can readily get on the cheap, but to each their own, get whatever you like cause you'll be wearing it all day long.

"bumpage to let more people see it."
lol.

I got a few lists put together. I've been drawing off of the things here, and a few searches.

I decided to put together 2 lists: a basic survival kit(BSK), and a Small Med KIt(SMK).

the medkit is pretty much what you'd find on something in google search, with a few personal additions.. next time i go to the store i'll make it.

The BSK has various Murphy's kit style thing.. duck tape, matches, outdoor camping stuff..

Here was one interesting thought... flourescent spray paint/ reflective tape. Never know when you might need to make some sort of signal or markings... idk, just an idea.

Oh sweet, I have a pouch for my old Gameboy Advance (got lost somewhere) maybe that would work nicely I suppose. Throw a few things in and it would work nicely. Do you find this valuable?

Reflective tape could be quite useful. The dual functionality of sticking stuff together and making a signal is nice. Be wary that your signals could be seen by raiders and the like as well though.

I might get round to making one if these mini kits myself.

super glue.. would be a good thing to add to a medkit, would it not?

I heard the nontoxic stuff can be almost as good as stitches on a large wound

I heard that, not sure where though. Somewhere on this site. I can't imagine it would be nice getting the super glue out though but then it's better than bleeding to death I suppose. Do you find this valuable?

You don't want to use superglue for large wounds, it's best for smaller cuts (>1.5")

don't forget that hand sanitizer can also work as a fire-starter. all it is is gelled alcohol.

I'm pretty sure it has been linked to some cancers, with prolonged exposure that is

Get the real stuff, Dermal Adhesive (Skin Glue)

When you think about it though, almost everything nowadays has been linked to cancer. Cancer is genetic though, if its gonna happen its gonna happen.

Sounds like an Every Day Carry (EDC) kit.
In my pants pockets, Swisstech folding pliers on my keyring along with a P38 can opener, Swiss Army knife in opposite pocket, bandages and credit card multi-tool in wallet.

Jacket pockets, bandanna, LED flashlight.

Neck lanyard(for ID card) small knife w/cord wrapped handle, LED flashlight, USB thumbdrive, Pill bottle with extra cash, whistle, fire starter.

Camera case with food, more bandages and disinfectant wipes, fire making equipment, cord, and other comfort items.

An EDC, yea.. i guess.

MY idea has evolved more into a survival kit. But you should always have an EDC too

Thats true, but I can't stand the smell of the stuff so I wouldn't use it on an open wound
