"Not necessarily. E=mc2 allows for a great deal of energy to be stored in one atom. But we suck at accessing that energy.

Now imagine that the zombie can access that energy at a reasonable percentage. The body would slowly decay, as the matter is turned into energy and absorbed. But the zombie could function for a long time, using up the parts of the body it doesn't use to power the parts that it does.

If the mechanism extends to foreign objects lodged in the flesh, shooting a zombie in the torso could be providing it with more fuel."
it would be the best thing that happened to humanity. ever. Assuming that zombies do not explode...

For physics, certainly. For humanity? Not so much.

conversion of matter to matter made possible

titanium/gold/insert sumthin here will be as same value as sh*t in its weight

unlimited energy.
Even 1 space station could rebuild the world in record time with unlimited resources/energy
not to mention that chances of failure with such benefits are very slim

They'd walk slowly and clumsily as a drunk person or someone with brain damage. If they aren't smart enough to plan, they wouldn't be very good at walking without tripping over almost everything. In one word: SLOW ! Do you find this valuable?

real udead would be slow shamblers. the real creatures that are really more llikely (the disease/chemical reaction) would be ragers (fast and angry). Do you find this valuable?

Possibly, but if a high fever is involved, the brain could be so fatigued with the high fever, it starts to melt and delirium and weakness sets in. People with fevers aren't very fast or agile in my experience.

You should always plan for ragers - as your greatest risk will always be raiders.

Not just the heavily armed "Mad Max" style, either, but refugees - thousands of them, on foot, starving, desperate, cleaver, dangerous, and sympathetic (I know, like you, I hate the part of Z movies where they hesitate to pull the trigger, but a starving, non-infected refugee? That will make you think twice).

As you can see, if there was say, an EMP that did not decimate the population but cut off normal transportation of food stuffs - how long would it be before your rural town was overwhelmed by the starving masses moving out of the cities - stealing, killing, vandelizing, and eating everything like locust?

Go back an look at footage from NYC when the NE power grid when down a few years back. The streets were CLOGGED with pedestrians (many fearing terrorist attack). If transportation went down, they would stay until the food ran out and then flow out by foot in a wave that would overwhelm outlining areas that had depleted their foot stores (etc, etc, etc).

So, plan for your Zombies to be as fast as a human can run, as agile as a human, as clever as a human, and as determined as a Zombie (starvation does that to you).

If you learn to make head shots, then any other fatal shot is easy.

Thankfully, most refugees exhaust their ammo supply quickly and it does not take much in the way of hunger to get people to throw aside even heavy melee weapons (see how many boyscouts will keep that walking stick on a three day packing trip - most throw them away within a day or two).

Zombie killers, zombie crushers, hmm seems to be a lot of those on this site.

Has anybody considered the Brooks type zombie? The virus transforms the biology to such an extent that the subject needs no food, water or rest. Also they decompose at a very slow rate because microorganisms are killed by the virus. These zombies would be slow and uncoordinated, their software isn't there because the virus transforms the brain into something different. They have no human cognitive processes to speak of and become like instinctual, disposeable hijacked corpses. They would have the instinct to walk, but would lack the skill and experience necessary to walk gracefully, run, or maybe even avoid obstacles. Also, they don't heal, so after a day or so of walking, the fibers in the leg muscles would be torn up with so many micro tears the muscles would be rendered practically inoperable, a departure from the guide for certain but an extrapolation of the conditions put forth in it. After a day of not taking in water and not sweating, the dead would probably also bloat and this would not contribute to longevity. Do you find this valuable?

"Obviously, you can have facts about something that doesn't exist. As for a theory, I'd guess that in most cases it would go hand in hand with decomp. Freshly turned zombies would likely be the quickest, probably capable of a good power walk if not a run. Not so fresh ones would probably be more limited to a light jog speed, and the older ones would be your likely shamblers. And it goes without saying that the ones withe the shattered ankles or blown of legs would be the crawlers."
Yeah, if someone just got infected, they would be like freakin' marathon runners if desired. Now, if the zombies came from an ancient grave (100 years or older) they would walk slowly and be dripping with maggots and decomposing flesh as their legs snap and limbs "shlorp" out of position, you can also see their small bits of remaining muscle pop and slide out of their flesh, and you can hear their weary bones crack and split as they try to stumble their way towards you, hungry for skin and meat.

If you tried to infect a century-old corpse, you might find a distinct lack of brain matter.

If they didn't take in nourishment, their muscles would give out in a day or two. The zombie apocalypse might last for all of a month. After an hour of walking or running, they'd start to slow and then be crippled by entropy acting upon their biology. Do you find this valuable?

Well, you never know. They may hunt animals for food if they get the chance, five or more infected would probably easily take down a cow or pig. Heck, they may even eat crops, we just don't know.

It's possible that the infected can go into a state of "hibernation" and save numerous calories when food isn't nearby at the time.

i agree if there dead then necrosis sets in stiffening the joints unless they try to run and pull their limbs out of socket really quickly.... or the ragers which aren't dead but mutated then yes i think they can be fast unless you get the ratiated dead from cities hit with nuclear weapons then the radiation would kill the bacteria that helps decay the dead and turn them in to a more deadly nuclear zombie.....

"Lets just say Zombie Land Like...

Unless there is a quantity of them you will not need to run much (depending on your shooting ability)

Take the scene from the gas station for example...

if he had shot the bathroom zombie
he would have scanned the area and quickly reloaded

heading back to the car he would have had one shot each, then reloaded

then could have checked the car and seen the zombie in back

no running required just good shooting... incompetence nearly killed him"
I agree. If you were in a situation like that, incompetence will kill you. You wouldn't be able to just go into an abandoned shop and think 'this looks fine, i'll just go inside' It would be complete suicide! If you did i'd suggest not going in alone. Having someone to watch your back while you grab what you need will help you if Zombies are there. Having a warning will give you nothing if not a quick head start in running or shooting. Personally I would run since the sound of gun shots would attract other zombies (maybe?), and you'd have a limited quantity of ammo. I'd say run first, shoot second or last if you have any other kind weaponry.

"plus the fact that if it isnt an airborne pathogen any army will easily deal with a bunch of people running at them, apocalypse over."
Not if you have to shoot them in the head to kill them. A basic human instinct is to survive. If that means running so you survive then you'll always have people that will run.

"Hunting laws in your area may require that you DO NOT HAVE more than three shells in your shot gun at a time, however this is not a limit on your guns capacity."
Plugged pump action shotguns are limited to three rounds. Unless the pump is a home defense or tactical version it will be plugged when it is new.
