I just had to join to find out who in the hell thought that these are the top ten. I don't even understand how some of them could make the top ten let alone make it so high in the list. M1 Carbine? Really? What are there about 10 of them left in the world? Mosin-Nagant? Really? A ancient cheapo relic is what you want to trust your life to? I'm sorry guys but you need some people to join who actually know something about firearms. I'd start by inviting some people from the GlockTalk forums to begin with. You kids need an adult here who can explain to you the ends and outs of firearms. Don't go getting all mad, you all just need a serious reality check when it comes to rifles. This list would be laughed off most gun forums. I understand this is a kiddy site where you play pretend but at least inject some realism into your discussions. You could start by including something about food, water, shelter and clothing post-apocolypse. These things are important too. How about talking about BOBs (Thats what folks on survival forums use to break down bug-out-bag.) Its a back-pack that survivalist create in case disaster strikes and you have to get away from your house quickly. I could make a list of what most of them carry and share it with you so you'll know what to pack. This all might sound crazy but these are the things they talk about on real survival sites. Second, you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to the M1. Obviously you've never been to a gunshow. I also don't like the Mosin, but I trust them to work. Third, that list was voted on. It was a popularity contest basically, we've had zillions of people come on here and argue over this list so don't think you've come up with anything original. We voted as a site on these particular weapons, and the reasoning behind them is in the text. As far as glock talk.... It seems as though you might be a little more enlightened than I origionally believed. Either way I am here to add as much as I can and if it seemed as though I was a little overbearing I apologize. You all must admit that the list of weapons does contain seriously old firearms that are no longer used on the modern battlefield. You have a lever action rifle up there for crying out loud. Those haven't been cutting edge since the Eighteen hundreds. You should make a new list that can only be voted on by a select few participants. As far as Loki, well look at our subject matter... Obviously we get lots of trolls. The list wasn't trying to get the best rifles ever manufactured. They were recommended based off of service record, ease of use, accuracy, ammo availability, and ease in obtaining. We weren't trying to go for te greatest rifles ever, just the top ten for our site. Old weapons may be better after TSHTF, as ammo may not support the extravagant ammo usage of modern rifles. In regards to the gentleman, or child, that enjoys trolling.. As a personal pointer, don't take all your knowledge from armchair commandos. Given, they are on almost all sites like this, as well as your jewel encrusted C*ckTalk forum. in addition, all sites face a serious affliction from time to time known as trolls. its like crabs. but its easier to solve.. I believe thats a fair verbal warning, so play nice, and have a look around our site. We have plenty of information and interesting things. Oh and if you find a troll post, try to play nice, but if they're too dumb to accept their standing in life, we'll handle them. on a side note: Most of the "major" forums on the web are not respected well by anyone but the admins on such sites, and the children that think it actually gives them info. Granted, I use Ar15.com to gauge prices of private party sales on certain parts.. but.. just because there are a lot of members doesn't mean its a respectable site. Anyway, I thought addressing the firearms was a completely separate issue. Yes, it was a vote, majority ruling. Now, the reason the mosin is on there is because of its amazingtrack record, availability, cheap cost, and overall effectiveness. The m1 carbine.. I don't agree with everything on either the top 10 rifles or the top 10 pistols lists, but it was a site vote so I let it be, and at least both lists only include guns people can realistically buy rather than fantasy guns from Call of Duty. I can promise you right now that a vote with only a "selected few" is never going to happen on this site. If you'd still like to go for a new list, try PMing a staffmember to ask about a new vote. The topic has come up before, you might have a chance of convincing them. If you'd like to talk about your views on firearms, try starting a new thread in the weapons and gear section. And as for the age of some of these firearms, you're really overlooking. Many turn of the century firearms were such massive leaps, products of Industrial Revolution and science, that even today they're still capable. Ever heard of the 1911? Just because the gun has a bit of petina doesn't make it any less lethal. If anything, their age and wartime production numbers makes them cheap and in good supply, as they get so often looked over for not being tacticool. That means you can afford to buy and actually shoot one on a fairly regular basis, while the M4A1 SOPMOD sits on a wall somewhere as a glorified conversation piece.
