Official state firearm?... Maybe it's a sign.
Mar 21 2011, 12:48 PM EDT
So lawmakers in Utah recently named the M1911 as the state handgun. Maybe I should move there. My current Lady friend says it's great and has nothing but good to say... Any input? I like the western states and I'm due for a change of pace, Thought I would see if there were any experiences, ideas, or knowledge y'all could share. Do you find this valuable? |

i live in south SLC and i like it. gun laws kick ass here. you can even get a silencer if you want to pay the $200 for a background check. the one thing i do hate about SLC is the smog. Do you find this valuable? |

also, that pistol was named the state gun because John Moses Browning (who invented that gun) lived north of SLC in a town called Ogden.Do you find this valuable? |

John Browning was a Mormon, and from Utah. I visited his father's workshop - also a firearms genius - in Nauvoo, Illinois about ten years ago. Pretty neat.I'm really not surprised that they chose the 1911. Do you find this valuable? |

I had read about the tax stamp, but he specifically told me that the tax stamp goes to pay for the govt to do a background check. Do you find this valuable? |

Check the liquor laws out there. There could be silly laws like no booze sales on Sundays and what-not, but I'm not 100% sure. Those bible-bangers like to keep everyone sober. No offense to any bible-banging Mormons. Do you find this valuable? |

"So lawmakers in Utah recently named the M1911 as the state handgun. You'll be closer to me. :) I've heard they are trying to pass a law to allow gold and silver as legal currency, in addition to the greenback. Don't know if you'd consider that as plus or not. And the LDS are pretty family oriented, so that imo is good. They are also into preparedness, so they might not think that you are too out to lunch. Gold and silver as currency is okay, but all of the gold and silver coins I have are worth well over what they are stamped for. Although I am considering to sell them off soon any way. I have never been to Utah, but like DLOW, I have the itch to find a new stomping ground. I for some reason just like to move every five to ten years. I guess I am just a wanderer. This is a positive sign that the state protects gun rights, but what does this really mean? Its not like Utah is handing out 1911s to all their residents. I can go around saying "The AK47 is the official firearm of Toxic Shock" but the ghost of Mikhail Kalashnikov isn't going to show up at my door with a gift wrapped AK. Do you find this valuable? |

If any city will survive, it's salt lake. I've talked a lot about why mormons would be better off than everyone else, but salt lake also has a geographical advantage. Mountains surround them on every side like a castle, yet there is tons of room for farming and industry.I think you should move down there, it's a lot like any other city, but quite a bit more religion, family, and firearm based. Not to mention nearly all mormons carry a strong work ethic and are typically very good at whatever they do. For example, I know a doctor who works down there who is incredibly brilliant and has found several improved treatment techniques for many ailments, along with having the first name of pepper. @toxic_shock: We already have dry sundays statewide where I live(TN), so I'm not too worried about that.I have been really looking into the idea, I grew up out west, and I miss the desert terribly. So I just was hoping to get some input from current and past residents... Thanks everyone... Now to find a coroners office out there that needs a new genius M.E. Do you find this valuable? |

"If his ghost is showing up, something terribly wrong has happened.Damn, I thought he was dead! And while I may come off as an alcoholic (really, I'm not! Really!) I don't like how the guv'mint restricts sales of things like that. What difference does it make if I'm loaded on Sunday or Tuesday? I thought this county was founded on the premise of the separation of church and state, but that is a whole 'nother discussion. Do you find this valuable? |
