Fortified school
Mar 26 2011, 1:42 AM EDT
My school is a former army camp. It is a mini island with a 12 foot wide moat separating it from the outside world. The only two entrances both have 2 concrete walls to prevent breaking in. Everywhere you go in my school you can see barb wire and 3 foot thick concrete walls. Is this more defensible?

I'm honestly not sure if this is a troll or not, so i'll bite.Assuming you are telling the truth, then there are a few questions that very quickly come to mind 1. what sort of school is this that has barbed wire and concrete walls? 2. If its the sort of school i'm picturing then what sort of person are you to be in a school like that 3. geographically schools for at risk youths are either in a large city or out in the sticks, which is it? 4. Does the school own backup generators? are there vocational classes held there? (woodshop, metalshop, welding, etc) 5. what does the area outside the wall look like? is it wooded? desert? or are there tall buildings close by? 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Do you know how expensive a building with 3' thick concrete would be. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Screw fortifications. What about supplies?I'd be surprised if there was enough food in storage to feed one person for a month, let alone the amount of people who would flood the buildings to try and take shelter. As the page says, schools rely on constant food deliveries to keep up with the rate of consumption. When deliveries stop, the only foods that won't go bad as soon as power goes out are the vending machine contents. If your school HAS vending machines. Not to mention that vending machines also need constant restocking; not as often as the cafeteria, but still often enough that seeing the janitors at the machines after hours isn't especially uncommon. You could enter the school when they've been freshly filled or when they're all empty except for a few bottles of Diet Sprite and some bags of corn chips. As for cafeteria food, don't expect much variety. I'm willing to bet that the only stuff they keep a surplus of is whatever they don't serve a huge amount of. So plenty of frozen potatoes in various forms, condiments, and possibly milk and orange juice. Not all schools have huge freezers and fridges to store food in, so they take that into account when making orders. Other than that, you'll be lucky to find stuff in the teachers' lounge fridges that they happened to leave. One fridge could be empty or have enough food for three or four days if you're lucky. The diet is unhealthy at best, though I'd be surprised if you survived long enough to suffer the health effects. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
