Can't shoot what you can't see.
Mar 29 2011, 11:23 PM EDT
I was on the "What is Your Biggest Personal Liability (as a survivor) thread, reading how many people, like myself, require glasses. Does anyone have a plan on how they are going to keep their glasses from breaking? If they do break, could you manage without them? Is there a way to construct such a delicate piece in a post apoc. world? Here is the post I mentioned at the top: http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/thread/4531444/What+is+Your+Biggest+Personal+Liability+%28as+a+Survivor%29%3F?offset=0&maxResults=20 Also, yes. There is a thread on this subject. But it was not very conclusive. Do you find this valuable? |

You don't have extra pairs put away?...You shouldNo reason you have to pay alot for them either. get your prescription from your local optometrist that has examined you [they might not be happy to give it to you but they have to]. Once you have this there are places on line that you can give your prescription to and will sell you your glasses very cheap, like around $25. don't expect designer frames but I have a friend that has gone this route and his frames are plenty solid and not to bad looking I deal with a company called ReplaceALens and for $30 [slightly more for sunglasses etc.] they will put new lens in your prescription into frames that you supply them. I have used them several times sending them these old Safety Glasses frames I like and have been very happy. I sell WWII glasses and some of the people that bought them have used this company and reported back that they are very happy with them I just bought a neat pair of safety glasses with leather side shields that I think I am going send in to have have sunglasses lens put in Do you find this valuable? |

I have spare contacts in my BOB, I just need spare glasses. If I didn't have anything to help my eye sight, I'd almost certainly be screwed.

I have 2 pair of prescription safety glasses in my BOB, plus I have 2 pair that I wear normally (1 dress, 1 work). The 2 in my BOB are an old prescription, but they haven't changed much. All though they are heavy and bulky. I have astigmatism in my right eye, but my left eye compensates for it so I have normal 20/20 vision. But my right eye feels like it's straining after a while on the computer, reading, or shooting. It also makes seeing in the dark without my glasses hard to do. I also have packed an extra pair of sun glass slip-ons, so the sun doesn't blind me. Do you find this valuable? |

i have absolutely perfect vision, but this is something ive thought about alotanother concern is people with hearing aids or pacemakers, compared to them people needing glasses are lucky im pretty sure your local lenscrafters will be the last place to be on a looter's priority list so finding an extra pair after TSHTF isnt an impossibility Do you find this valuable? |

"i have absolutely perfect vision, but this is something ive thought about alotIf you know how to use the equipment used to machine the glasses... they don't just have extra lenses in every perscription laying around, this is an item you need to have before TSHTF... after and you be blind... and maybe screwed too. Honestly, I'm hoping that SHTF after my vision stops worsening and I get surgery

I have been considering having surgery on my right eye. They will simply replace my lens with a synthetic one. Because my astigmatism is just that my eye lens is shaped with a divot and shoots some of the light entering my eye away from the sensors in the back of my eye. I checked and can get it done foe $1200, then I wouldn't need any glasses.

as long as my lenses don't crack I'm good i have lots of spare glasses but before I've had to buy dollar store frames and fit my lenses into them its a quick fix most of the time

extra pairs will only go so far... the only suggestion i have would be to wrap a few layers of duct tape or something around the frames epecially on the weakpoints... wouldn't be comfortable but it's better than nothingthe only other thing i can suggest is pre-zday get laser eye surgery Do you find this valuable? |

"If you know how to use the equipment used to machine the glasses... they don't just have extra lenses in every perscription laying around, this is an item you need to have before TSHTF... after and you be blind... and maybe screwed too."some people just need generic glasses +-(whatever number) all that aside if i needed glasses and i had none, it would be worth the shot, you could try and succeed, or be blind and most certainly fail Do you find this valuable? |

One thing I would do if you wear glasses and not contacts would be find out the strength you need. Then, if something happens, you could either find boxes of contacts or generics that are close enough in strength, hopefully, to get you through.

I have glasses, but I can see okay without them. Back before I had glasses I was able to hit a 1-2" circle steel swinger at 25 yards with open sights when I was 8. My vision has probably degraded a bit since then, but I am still confident in my abilities to pull off headshots decent to at least 50 yards.

I have to wear glasses by law for when I drive but I can drive without them - I just can't read any signs until I'm actually driving passed them lol i.e. I can see things in the distance I but I just can't read anything. I'm glad you guys are paying piss all for your glasses - I'm being robbed £89.00 for my glasses, which I now have 2 pairs of. I have been thinking of getting laser eye surgery because although I don't wear them on the ranges my markmanship and observation will suffer due to the lack of them. Do you find this valuable? |
