flame throwers
Apr 5 2011, 4:16 PM EDT | Post edited: Apr 5 2011, 4:16 PM EDT
The biggest problem, with flame throwers, is they are long obsulete, and so is the fuel. You might create a flame thrower, but i suspect it would be more dangerous to the user, than the target. The best bet would be something mounted in the back of a pick up truck.
Good luck on Z day

1. Put a wire coat hanger on a water gun and bend it so it will be 3 inches from the spray nozzle.
2. Rubber band a birthday candle to the hanger.
3. Duct tape the coat hanger.
4. Fill gun with WD-40.
5. ?????
6. LARGE FIRE THAT KILLS YOUR FRIENDLIES AND GETS YOURSELF HURT!
7. AN HERO AFTER BEING BITTEN BY THE ONCOMING FLAMING ZOMBIES.

Flamethrowers are TERRIBLE weapons for a zedpoc. The biggest problem is not the fuel consumption or the bright light that will alert every zombie within visual range. The biggest problem is this:The only thing worse than a horde of zombies coming after you is a horde of FLAMING zombies coming after you to bite/eat you and/or SET YOU ON FIRE. Flame throwers were, more or less, designed for clearing out cement pillboxes and trenches. That's not exactly common fighting ground now adays.

Also, think about collateral damage. Sure, if you somehow managed to get a hold of a REAL flamethrower, it would take out a large, densely packed group, but think about the damage it would do to the surrounding buildings. Sure, you took out 10 zombies, but you also burned down Wall Street.

You never know in an apocalypse technology will probably get bonked back a little with it maybe even warfare.

Since mobile warfare would be difficult without motorized vehicles and tanks you may find obsolete things like large forts and pillboxes may become useful once more.

A lot of people may be fighting Napoleonic style you know so just maybe in a human on human conflict old things that are obsolete now may become useful again.

Think about.

I would Imagine that A flame thrower would be a good weapon for z-day.
as long as the wind is at its minimal, It can be used to great effect as a vehicular OFFENSIVE weapon. Either Mounting it BEHIND a vehicle to burn the undeadfollowers or walking backward ( ITS AN often overlooked OPTION), should suffice.

I think flamethrowers would be excellent tools post-apoc.

.... Just not for killing zombies. Sure, napalm will burn a body up in no time, but I think there is better use for this equipment to aid in fire prevention through controlled burns :)

or a defensive line in the event of,say, a bunch of people who decided to take over the rennaisance fair, equip themselves with knight armor, and charge your perimeter with swords..

i'd demand fire be used. just for the fun of it.

Just think of what a time saver that is.. The flaming zombie gets to cook you AND eat you at the same time...not dirty pots and pans to clean up afterwards... :)
