Need help with my bug-in plan
Apr 23 2011, 9:40 PM EDT | Post edited: Apr 23 2011, 9:40 PM EDT
I used to always think that zombies were just made up stuff, but I read the Zombie Survival Guide and changed my point of view. My parents won't let me buy weapons of any kind but I need a plan that will fulfill the needs of 5 people, parents, me, 9-year old sister, and 3-year-old sister. Only things that are somewhat weapons are a couple of kitchen knives, a hatchet (we go camping a lot), a couple aluminum and wooden bats, and about five small pocket knives (max blade length 4in.). There is a church and a building that used to be a Ralph's nearby. Please help me! Do you find this valuable?

Well think about your location first.
Is it well located? Alot of people around? Is it big? Small? How much food do you have on you? How much food can you get? If any, what kind of barrications can you set up? Your weapons seem basic, the hatchet will help. No one said you needed many weapons to survive anyway.

If your area seems too populated, try bugging out to a safer location. And avoid the church.

I live in a suburban area and there are quite a few people around, there is also a costco nearby and I was thinking of using the crates they have there for a barricade. I forgot to mention before that i have a three floor house and I was thinking of barricading the topmost stairs with a table and those crates. There is also a bathtub with running water upstairs and i know that will help. My only problems are food, power, and protection (weapons-wise). Also, my father and I are both in the BSA (Boy Scouts of America) so I was thinking that the skills I learn there might help such as first aid and also wilderness survival. Weapons are only a small part of the equation, no matter how many times we discuss them on here... they are the most "enchanting" part of a plan sometimes, but there are other important things to worry about.

I would take a look at these threads:
http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/thread/4095529/Teenage+survival...+for+real

http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/thread/4431176/BOB+for+teenager..or+else

I don't know your age, but I'm assuming 15 or under. I would suggest getting your parents involved in helping you form a plan. If you bring it up as "zombies" you may not find them very receptive... but if you bring it up under "disaster preparedness", I think you may find a better discussion happening. 90% of the things you would need to do in a zombie apocalypse; you would need to do for nearly any other sort of disaster.

One of the main things you will hear from us is this: "If you do not have it now, don't expect to be able to get it after the disaster". This means that your plan should not consist of things that are in other places, do not belong to you, or are not already in your possession. It may take a lot of the "fun" out of the plan, but it will leave you with a workable, realistic plan. Welcome to the site.

Thanks for the idea of "Disaster Preparedness Kit" I did remember that we have an earthquake kit that we keep that has extra clothing and canned food. Although now that I think about it, we haven't restocked/refreshed that kit in a while, it would probably be a good idea to do that . Do you find this valuable?

You could always turn the office into a fort. And build a Zeppelin.

All sarcasm aside, I think you've got pretty ideal conditions. Keep your disaster kit on the top floor. Also, barracade the bottom and second floor too, that extra protection could save your ass. Get some canned fruit, ramen noodles, and a lot of bottled water.

Ask your parents for a pellet gun they kill small game for hunting and at close range humans. I think they would let you its always overlooked by society. Do you find this valuable?

Thanks yo guys for the ideas. Also, Diablo, I'm not so sure about the pellet gun but I'll give it a try, I have asked them for a simple spring-action BB-gun and they said no, but I'll see if I can persuade them into letting me get one. Thanks again!
