My guns collection seems to be reproducing?
Apr 24 2011, 12:47 PM EDT | Post edited: Apr 24 2011, 12:47 PM EDT
I have noticed that since I have joined this site and talking about zombies and other apocalypse ideas that my gun collection is growing.

I started with a Sears bolt action single shot .22, Sears bolt action single shot 20 gauge, Remington double barrel over under 12 gauge, double barrel .357 derringer, and a Smith and Wesson 686 .357 revolver.

I now have all of the above except the derringer and H&K MR 556 (AR), SKS, Maverick 12 gauge pump, Glock 22, Remington 1911, and my new carry gun a Keltec P11 (9mm).

Has anyone else noticed that their gun collection has gotten larger since joining the site or is it just me?

I know mine has. Mainly, I'm getting older, so my parents are okay with me buying guns.

Since joining, I've gotten:
Winchester 94 .30-30
Browning A5 12 gauge
Mossberg 500 12 gauge
S&W 586 .357
Colt Python .357
Heritage Rough Rider .22
Remington 700 BDL .270

And that's in addition to what I already had.

Guns and shooting sports are one of my main passions, so over the past couple years my collection has grown and been refined by selling off guns I didn't have any use for to buy ones I would actually use.

I started off with a .410 Mossberg 500 and a 1911 built from parts.

Since then, I own (or have owned)...
Springfield XD40 Subcompact (First CCW gun, sold it recently)
Ruger Mini-14 (First rifle, sold because it never got shot)
Sig P238 (Bought it for CCW while riding motorcycles)
Colt New Agent (Current EDC CCW gun)
Pardner Protector 12 Gauge (Home defense)
Stoeger Cougar (Bought it to have a 9mm, considering selling it for a .22LR 1911)
Springfield EMP (Newest gun, wanted a 1911 in 9mm)

I want to add a .22LR 1911 for training/plinking purposes to my "arsenal" but after that I've decided to hold off on new gun purchases for a while to focus on my other love, motorcycles. I've been wanting a new one for a while, time to save up.

I have always had a weapon problem, I have been collecting them since I was 10 or so. I have just recently started parring down my collection to be more managable and have a good supply of ammo for the really important ones. I have recently sold about twenty rifles(mostly collectors pieces and antiques). I am down to about nine rifles and three shotguns now. I have not got up the nerve to cull down my handgun collection yet but I will. Do you find this valuable?

Mine has actually gotten a little smaller. I have been collecting for 40+years though.

But I recently sold about 20 rifles of various types and have not bought anything new .

Mine hasn't grown, but it has switched around. Swapped the 12ga shotgun for a marlin 30-30. Also upgraded my 357.

My goal for the ammunition stockpile has gone from a 200 shot reserve to 500. Have you kept ammunition in mind when expanding the gun pile?

True keeping a good supply of ammo. for all of the guns is important. I have been shopping around the gun shows and buying up 1/2 and full cases of ammo. Do you find this valuable?

The next gun I would like to buy would be a PS 90, mainly because they look fun to shoot, and I have to say that I am a big fan of the Star Gate and Star Gate Atlantis t.v. shows. Do you find this valuable?

I bought a lovely AK since I've joined this site. I'm going to buy another handgun in the following months, probably a Glock 19. I'm a gun loving guy though, I was going to be more guns anyways.
I am looking to do another rifle build soon, probably an AR or an AK74.

I actually saw an advertisement for an AK 47 (Mac 90), I have yet to shoot an AK. But I would guess that one would shoot much like my SKS but with three times the BANG before reloading. Instead of a PS90 I am going to go in later and buy one of these AK's, and use it for my first modify project.

I have not modified a gun before, I have always gone with them as I bought them. Are there any suggestions on what modifications I should consider or definitely do to my soon to be AK?

Well if you want to get a Mak 90 make sure it has a square cut receiver in the back of the receiver near the butt stock. Some Maks have angled receivers, these only accept thumb hole stocks.
If you get one make sure you also make it 922r Compliant. I suggest the Tapco G2 trigger assembly and retainer plate as a good compliance starter piece. The Mak 90 is a double hook trigger btw, just for ordering information.
If you decide to change out the forearms I'll also recommend that if you go with something polymer make sure it has a heat shield in it. Wood forearms dissipate heat a little better but they're also heavier most of the time.
If you want to mount a scope your options may vary over which AK you get. Some have a side rail that can be used. Mine doesn't, I'm actually fixing to by an Ultimak rail and set up. Kind of like this. http://media.photobucket.com/image/recent/Wolvydude/AK%2520Pics/2abc514c.jpg
Just ask if you want to know anything else.

i'm planing on putting an airsoft p90 shell onto my Ruger 10/22 receiver and try to make it as realistic as possible. it'll be a lot cheaper to make (300 bucks overall) and shoot than an actual p90.

i WANT to figure out a way to make it have a mag similar to the p90, but since a .22 is rimmed, i doubt its possible.....maybe a spiral style like on the old calico SMG....

I don't know if that would work? If you can get it to work, Please post a picture of it.

To me I don't see what would support the 10/22, all that holds the inside of an airsoft gun is plastic.

My collection has actually shrunk to nothing. Though that has more to do with hard times than this site.

BTW, guns are the best investment I have ever made. My favorite of 20, two years ago, was my Marlin 336C( a 30-30 lever action). I brought it at a gun show for 80 bucks when I turned 18(10 years ago now), sold it two months ago for 400. They tend to only increase in value, if you're good to them. Treat them like dirt and they'll drop like a rock. Also, I only buy guns made before the 60s, they knew how to make stuff back then. I've shot modern guns and thought about buying them but they don't generally compare, especailly for the price.

If it works for him I wouldn't mind trying a similar project.

I don't think it would be legal here because of our bull-pup rifle laws, talk to a police officer or your CFO

Similar project, not the same, I would probably model it after a different rifle.

Yet another stupid law that I hope Harper gets rid of.

Personally, my firearms collection stands at zero. There are several guns that I have always wanted, but some of them turned out to be illegal in Canada and for a few others I just never bothered to do the paperwork. This site has certainly motivated me to get off my ass and start sending in licensing applications it has also influenced the evolution of my wishlist. The list of guns that I'm planning to buy now doesn't look anything like the list I had when I first joined this site.
