Bed mattresses/couch cushions, Good barricading materials?

I was thinking that if you have multiple floors you could use mattresses or couch cushions to block those staircases. They wouldn't last forever of course, but it might last long enough for you to put other furniture barricades. Do you find this valuable?

Mattresses aren't heavy enough. You could use a couch, and for last ditch, if they come up the stairs, push the couch at them. Do you find this valuable?

I think there'll be other usable things, better for the situation. Do you find this valuable?

I was thinking more of putting them on the stairs so the zombies wont be able to climb up. Do you find this valuable?

The best suggestion is to axe up the stairs if you can. Second or for near to the last minute, make it hard for them to walk up the stairs. If you have open stairs, maybe make it so you can keep pushing them off the stairs or it is too hard for them to navigate and they keep falling off.

Thats right, break em up. Get yourself a rope ladder for your use that can be retracted when your up. Do you find this valuable?

Cushions and mattresses won't take very much to remove. I'd rather cover my stairs with ball bearings than try and use something so flimsy and light. Do you find this valuable?

In most two story houses they have an attic. In the attic there is usually a "Runway" of 1/2" to 3/4" plywood held down with a couple of nails, I would go that way first. Inviting flesh crazed zombies over for a pillow fight is a fail idea. If you don't have the "Runway" then you can tear up the sub-floor in the attic, by code this will be made of 3/4" plywood at least, but it's a hell of a lot of work. Better idea is to get your butt down to home depot and buy some plywood like $50 can get a bunch of material and you can stash it in the garage until needed. Do you find this valuable?

They'd be great for building your super secret fort.

First thought - How many mattresses have you moved? How long does it take to drag a piece of furniture to the head of your stairs? The table my computer is on is a substantial chunk of wood and will easily choke my stairwell. It's less than 20 feet away from the stair and I can easily move it myself. Matttresses are very uncooperative to move. There is only one seat cushion up here.

My second thought - Why am I barricading myself in? Any barricade I make will have to hold only long enough for me to get out a window. I am not staying here. Not enough food. Not very defensible. It's like being in a cattle paddock only the zombies aren't going to bring me food.
